Students Know How To SWATCH What’s In Style What was the trend this year? Watches of every kind and color. The many varieties available included Swatches, Awatches, Coca-Cola watches, and even robot watches. Most of these were available for about thirty dollars. Most trends in clothing were a distinct reflection of the sixties with a little eighties flair. Paisley prints and the layered look were all the rage. In fact, almost any prints were in. In hot weather, a profusion of Jams in a vast array of tropical colors dominated the scene. Students buried the designer jeans in favor of washed-out denims in brands such as Levi's 501, Union Bay, and Guess. Silver and gold metallic accessories such as purses, jewelry, and shoes were shining all over the campus. Not shining were the neon colors of Madonna fame which faded out quickly. New Wave and Punk also adopted a more pastel look, while hi-tops in every color imaginable were seen dotting the campus. Both boys and girls donned boxer shorts with prints ranging from flowers to plaids. Oversized shirts were also a popular item. Many girls wore large tee shirts with various unusual or colorful designs. The Don Johnson look with the padded linen jacket and unshaven face slowly retreated back to Miami. Another fad was Coca-Cola clothing. Coke suddenly became chic once again, as Max Headroom spread the word that everyone should C-c-c-catch the Wave.
