School Days, School Days After three months of freedom, school bells tolled again on September 2, and the 1982 school year was underway. “Back to school” meant returning to the daily grind of alarm clocks and homework, but many students looked forward to a pro- mising new football season, the arrival of class rings, and cat- ching up on all the latest gossip. Students welcomed half days as an opportunity to make sum- mer fun last just a big longer, but unfortunate facul- ty members were required to remain in the sizzling classrooms until 4:00 PM every day.
