Sophs, Skits Surprise at Assemblies Ranging in emotion from the ultimate B-Day rally to a low of the second Senior-West basketball assembly, this year's assemblies offered a new wrinkle—the sophomores defeated the junior and senior classes in some of the many competition cheers. Also new this year was the time of the assemblies— switching to 9:15 a.m. instead of the previous 8:30 a.m. so more students would attend. Even though some of the assemblies seemed to be a drag, all the cheerleaders ar d other student efforts were tor the benefit of the student body. Above—The class of 78 fires up in a competition cheer. Top Left—Mr. Gary Johnson hangs the honeybear. Top Middle—Eat it, Duey! Lori Hanley feeds Duey Kautzmann's appetite in the banana eating contest. Top Right—A perfect pyramid by the honorable Cortina Brothers. Middle Right—What's the matter, Beth? Beth Hoiness leads a cheer at a pep assembly. Bottom Left—Where did you learn to drive, George? Coach Day shows his youthful spirit at the Girls' Basketball Divisional assembly. Bottom Middle—Mindie Land fires the crowd up. Bottom Right—Janet Jones introduces the competition cheer chart. 24 The Action

Saturday Night is All Right for...???!!! As if students don't see enough of each other at school, they meet after school and on weekends for some fun. Such activities include; weekend keggers, Young Life, shooting pool, meeting at the local pizza joint, skiing, and for those who are 18 (and for some who aren't), there are the bars and dancing. Movies are also popular with students. Some favorites were Rocky, Silver Streak, Silent Movie, and A Star is Born. Many students complained that there wasn't enough for high school kids to do. One effort was the Fourth Floor Alley, a place for students to dance on the top floor of the Public Library. Although the project was met with financial problems, the idea was widely accepted. 26 The Action
