Teachers Face Long Hours. . . For the first time in the history of School District 2, the majority of the members of the Billings Education Association struck Billings public schools after negotiations on a contract for the 1975-76 school year broke down. During this time, they faced long hours of picketing, cold weather, and chilly winds. People substituting for the teachers included businessmen women, college students, housewives, mothers, and fathers. The 18 day strike ended peacefully at 4:00 A.M., Monday, October 20, after the Board of Trustees obtained a very strong administration rights section, and the BEA gained binding arbitration for grievances and a fairly strong teachers' rights section.
