Slmuwr Chemistry Club HE Chemistry club, consisting of thirty charter members was organized at the beginning of the first semester of the school year 1930-31. Anyone having a C average in chemistry is eligible. Since the organization was new in the Billings High School, it allowed students, who had taken the course in previous years to join also. The purpose of the club is to stimulate interest in science, encourage research work, and to keep in touch with the accomplishments of present day scientists. The club Work supplements the textbook and affords an opportunity for students to gain further knowledge, especially of current science. Practical applications are made, which stim- ulate the interest. Meetings are held in the chemistry recitation room on the first and third Thursdays of each month. Frequently the latter part of the meeting is spent socially. Y 595 Ji l Q E. fiij:L,N.g,,5 is i 'fit ,Qi l f'.. 1- ' f ii TXT vi i .tk l A . ispx T . X lr All 'X' l l X if I' A l fl it i : Nik . lr! We have been creating these memories and the records of many of them are found on the pages that follow. They will grow more worth- while as the time goes on and more significant as we get further from them. Our memories should become the building blocks for better things. Whether we are in high school or in our vocations thereafter, from memories of past success we can achieve greater success and from memories of errors avoid making more. If our records of the past were more definitely made in other times we could build better in all walks of life. But back of all these 1'ecords, what we are doing every day is the most important as that is creating new records and new memories for the future. If we would realize this relationship in our endeavors, progress would surely result. A. T. Peterson, Superintendent n l 5 IP egg J, flllll ll, 6 IIIIIQTY-UNE . . . 5 1 l i l 1 l l 1 1 S you turn the pages of this history you will find your yesterdays looking back at you thru the faces of your friends. Are you happy over what you see, or do you find that your course wandered here and there rather aimlessly? XVhateyer you see, be assured that those yester- days were much like today, and that your today is soon fixed in the register of time into another yesterday. f i i Not always will the story be written in such pleasing form as you l find it here, but whether your legend be written in snow, sand, or upon the lives of your neighbors, you will see it and must read. So live today that your yesterdays may grow into a story that you will x be pleased to read. l Herbert H. Badgley, Principal I 1 - ll H X ll 3314 C jALLmu1AmLJpAL1w4,LLL.u4?g? X . The goal towards which we have striven during our four years of high school life is almost attained. We have found pleasure in the accomp- lishments of our daily tasks, joy in the re- ward for service, and happiness in the companionship of true and never to be forgotten friends. We will soon bid farewell to our high school activities and many of our friends, but the knowledge that we have gained and the experiences that we have had, we take with us for a foundation upon which our future success is built. May we always be loyal to our Alma Mater and may the Billings School Spirit live on forever. f l i f ,lf , il , jl X K Hd' E l ,.. 1 . u,,v,,,v....v..e,L,L,4.t1cA.c,L t cw .JAKE N115 TIIE IYYIVTE fri 44 AY X-'XX 4 N xXAx X xwgxb ,Q J m,fi ' 'f f M' 4 'fri .MEN Zak., Q lf Qi , WW 34 ww -' W 'aff W 4 FW 'N QA A vi va V1 2 : 'V MN H ,,fff'f A f E, A - 'J A X Xxx 1 ji ffffmffwffgfg ,ff 4 t y xxx Wffllibrrfrfiabl f ff Q Nfwvfljgm ' ll! The first activity of the class was a party, the largest ever held in the school. If one can judge from this first party, the class of 1934, can look forward to many successful social affairs. An exceptionally large number of the members of the Fresh- man class have been on the honor roll, and many members have taken an active part in debate, school orchestra, glee clubs, and the band. In all future activities much may be expected of this class. The sponsors of this class are Miss Opal Leonard and Miss Ethel Yates. A . arf 58 Q35-4? Billings 6-Great Falls 0 LEWISTOWN In the last game of the year, played on Thanksgiving day, Bill- ings ran rough shod over Lewis- town. The weather was ideal and a good crowd turned out before eating the customary cranberry sauce and turkey. From the first kickoff Billings kept up a steady march for touchdowns which did not slacken when the second and third teams were put in. It consisted of classes for both boys and girls: Miss Harriet Johnston sponsoring the girls, Mr. Gene Pearson and Mr. Oscar Bjorgum the boys. This is the first year that this course has been compulsory for all Freshman members. This program has been for- warded for the purpose of promoting good health which is the first of the seven cardinal principles of all physical education. The classes consist of gymnastic exercises, organized games, floor work, tumbling, apparatus Work, basketball, folk dancing, and baseball. Plans have been made for group hikes as soon as the weather is nice. Miss Harriet Johnston teaches a junior, senior, freshman and sophomore girls' basketball class also. .A G N gs --V H WI Jw X I .V f X win i'i i 'LQ y . -.X 5 N. At the first call, one hundred and seventy boys reported. They were divided into two leagues. All boys weighing over one hundred and thirty-five pounds were placed in the A league and those weighing under one hundred and thirty-five pounds were placed in the BU league. The AH league was then divided into seven teams and the B league into eleven teams. There were one and one-half rounds played in the AU league and one round in the B league. The winning team of the A league was California. The captain was Fred Lipp and the members of the team were Elmer Link, John Hovland, Bud Wiggenborn, Frank Bradbury, Louis Pool, and Phillip Marsh. The winning team of the 'ABN league was Montana. The captain was ,lorry Morris and the members were Frank Phelan, Jean Carroll, Walter Sump, Ray O'Donnell, Stanly Lord, Albert Fargo, and Ed Barrett. Mr. Daylis stated that good interest was shown this year and the league would be continued in the future. Girls' Basketball IRLS' basketball was somewhate of a novelty this year, because it has been omitted the last few years entirely. About two hundred girls from the different classes signed up for it. Each class selected a team from those who were out, and each team elected their own captain. A tournament was held between classes, after two weeks of practice. Each team played the other three classes, and the winning teams played each other. An intra-mural league wa sattempted but time was so short, this had to be dropped. Thus, many girls who would have liked to have continued the sport were forced to drop it. For this reason Miss H. Johnston, who coached the girls, hopes to get started much earlier and develop more of an interest in basketball for girls next year. -asf 78 It Lf? -11- NXI I II x gf , , ,VV, 41' I. He offers to hide the jewels in a secret cabinet in which is a parchment giving the details of a supposed hidden treasure. This is what she is after. The parchment states that an ancestor of Ambrose Applejohn was a notorious pirate. To guard against burglars, who are prowling about, Ambrose sits up all night, only to fall asleep and dream he is the bold baccaneer of the Spanish Main. Sfimzsor Activity Klub HE Activity Klub is organized as :1 literary society and for the purpose of pro- motingxschool spirit, better scholarship, and good fellowship. This year the club accomplished its purpose by backing the football season in supervising the concessions, giving a football assembly in which students were given cards containing game schedules and team identifications, sponsoring a dance after the first football rally, and giving a Christmas party for the alumni and students. The programs throughout the semester were of miscellaneous subjects pertaining to the American girl. The second semester was devoted to giving the basketball assembly before the dis- trict tournament, entertaining the Kinetic Klub, cooperating with the Athletic club to give a dance on Students' day, and honoring their outgoing Seniors at their last meeting. The programs were selected from the topic, The Poise of the Modern Girl. Their gift to the school this year was an electric bulletin board. 93 is X' 1 IJ T 'iz ,Q 'x-2' Lge-E --lirix ii T, Nyc. wwf' K i -' ,fj?f,,' Nj!
