Christmas Dance. .. studying. . . meetings. . . Carnival. . . selling magazines. . . these make up the story of the year. The story includes all things, both the trivial and the important. Among the important events of this year were the deaths of Rick DeMeyer and Jim White; these had a great impact. The contribution Rick and Jim made to the story of this year cannot be recorded in words or pic- tures, but it is nonetheless significant. We will remember their will to get ahead, their desire to seize the top, their never-give-in attitude. Because Rick and Jim are such a special part of the story of this year, the 1967 RAMBLER is dedicated to them. WILLIAM J. CONDON D.D. Bishop of Great Falls ELDON B. SCHUSTER D.D. Holy Rosary Parish Guadelupe Parish ZAREK, St. Pius X Parish Father Harold Arbanas, superintendent, also sponsors Key Club, teaches Senior Boys' Marriage and is Spiritual Director of the Search. Father does an enormous amount of work to keep Central on top , often staying late into the night and coming early the next morning. Even though Father is the busiest man around Central, he always has time to help students. He is a friend to anyone who needs him, and a welcomed counselor. The students of Central appreciate his dedication, hard work and his hearty laugh. Sister Regina, principal, is no stranger to Central. Though new in her role as principal here, she served Central as a counselor and faculty member from 1961 through 1964. An avid reader, Sister keeps abreast of the latest trends in education and strives to apply them to Central. However, the goal of academic excellence does not prevent her from taking a personal interest in the students. They find her readily available, a sympathetic listener and a competent advisor. Mrs. Andrew Schaff, school secretary, has a full day answering the phone, correcting schedules, filling in forms, running errands, and yet she has time to lend a much needed hand to the appreciative students. Sister Louise de Paul, teacher of the new Christianity and the Arts religion class, holds one of the tricks of her trade, a movie reel. Mr. Jim Mack, a man who always has a smile and a few cheery words for the students, has a never-ending job of keep- ing Central clean and in good repair. Some bells summon stu- dents to class, others signal fire, and others send out an SOS for Andy , Mr. Andrew Schaff, head custodian. Whether it be a locker, a light or a leak, his years of service have taught him all the tricks to lick it. COOPERATION BETWEEN STUDENTQ, FACULTY AND QTAFF HELPED MAKE CENTRAL AN EXCELLENT PLACE TO LEARN. Rarely seen standing around, the Central cooks, Mrs. Othelia Witham, Mrs. Ida May and Mrs. Frances Harmon, spend hours preparing good, wholesome meals for students and faculty. IT BEGAN. . . Silence broken with hearty yells. Rooms echoed fresh-friendly cheer. Familiar walls and well-walked floors, Welcomed the students, old and new. WEDNESDAY MASS Alive with lively songs Pray for yourself, Pray for your school Being one in soul, one in goal CARNIVAL Working as one, setting the mood Crews of builders, crowds of children The smell of fun and pop com balls Keeps Central alive another year. Queen Francie Mari HOMECOMING Lana Smith Linda Jones ZI M MER- MANS PHOTOS Linda Strieker Betty McCall Bobbie Jo Rivera The traditional snake dance was the only way to begin Homecoming 1966. The fire that sparked the 33-0 win over the Livingston Rangers found its beginning at the bonfire following the snake dance. The blaze grew bigger at the Homecoming assembly when Francie Marble was crowned queen and called for a victory that would be heard around the world. I I Getting ready for a parade takes longer than the parade itself. Band members exhibit some of the confusion felt before the Homecoming parade. Pep Club and Key Club combined their efforts to create a float worthy of a queen. Key Club officers Bob Dris- coll, Jim Stokoe, Dave Oswald, and Vem Roberts drove the Queen's float. For the second year in a row the BAND has captured first place in club float competition. This winning float is indicative of the spirit to work hard and win that is displayed by the band. AROUND THE WORLD THE JUNIOR FLOAT, a combination of applied theme, artistry and hard work, was awarded first place in the class float competition. A couple of natives (Africans?), Mike Lee and Tom Ford, POKE fun at Ron Matliem in the pot. This senior float took second. Is this an entry in the St. Patrick's Day parade? No, it is the sophomores' 'Luck of the Irish' contribution to the Home- coming parade. The float brought back fond memories to the newest arrivals to Central's staff, the Irish nuns. IN 80 DAYS The freshmen began bringing the 'Rams to the Heights' by the class unity it took to make this float. PAGE SPONSOR EMPIRE STEEL MANUFACTURING CO. 50 1 NORTH 18TH ST. Our team did just that the whole season. Here Mike McCleary (31), leads a yell from the sidelines. The cheerleaders and the student body backed the team 100% in their toughest game of the year against Bozeman. The Pep Club made green and white shakers, and the boys made wooden clappers. All the work paid off for the Big Green when the Rams defeated the Hawks 19 to 14. In the '66 - ‘67 football season the Rams played tough. Unity, hard work, spirit, and the lead- ership of the coaches, and Captain Jim Frickle sparked the team to their co-championship trophy. The starting offensive squad consisted of eight seniors and three juniors, with a strong bench coming from senior, junior, and soph, classes. Coach, are you really worried? 19 Jim Frickle, captain of the Rams presents the divisional co-championship trophy to Father Arbanas. Coach Don Christiansen presents the Most Valuable Player Trophy Award to the most outstanding player, chosen by the team and coaches. Rick Bean worked hard and lead the team both on and off the field. 66-67 RAMS CO-CHAMPS OF CENTRAL DIVISION, CLASS A John Agnew tip - toes around end, as a Bozeman Hawk tries furtively to nab him. These might be Doug Furrow's thoughts as he comes into school. 26 There's nothing like a hamburger and a coke after a hard day at school. At least Shirley Schiffer seems to think so. AFTER 3:20 Linda Duffy seems relieved to store her books for another night. 27 Dan is studying? No, just posing for a picture. But many students do use the library after school. Bell telephone operators? No, just Central students working at the new Language Lab. THE LANGUAGE LAB MAKES LANGUAGE LOVABLE The new language lab quickly found its way into the hearts of Latin, French, Spanish and shorthand students. Monday through Friday students, eager and otherwise, don the headphones in the lab's fifteen booths. It's tremendous , says Sister Mary Laurita. We're very fortunate to have it. I think all teachers and students using it agree that it has been a great help in making foreign languages more interesting. The lab was donated in mem - ory of Theodore and Mary Karls. Frank Smith seems fascinated as he and Sister Mary Laurita observe the Language Lab in action. In Secretarial Practice, Kathy Whittle searches in vain for something in the files. But all is not file work; they also learn proper office procedure and how to run business ma- chines efficiently. Hard work is the essence of a successful carnival. Although Patty Murdo, Linda Burgess, and Colleen Thomas' teamwork was well organized, Teresa Borer's Art Gallery had that extra effort and originality which won them the prize of ten dollars. Mary Ulrickson tries her luck at Spin the Wheel? Or is it the Rose Bowl? Or Fish Pond????? CARNIVAL To many people, the only problem was parking. Jim Stokoe, President of Key Club and his crew tried to keep traffic moving. An anxious crowd awaits Father Arbanas' announcement of first prize, the ’67 Cougar. Other prizes included a camper, a colored T.V. , a honda, ten portable T.V. 's, a portable stereo and a camera. Preparation played a big part in our story of the year. M. Roe, ABOVE, used the library for class prepara- tion. S. Dowell, BELOW, shows confidence as she gets ready to take part in the Eastern Speech Meet. The Student Council officers, (L. to R.), B. Many reasons for and effects of the Lit- tle Council , for example are intangible and impossible to picture, but both are very real and apparent in the attitudes of faculty and students alike. Intangibles, time, and space make it impossible for the yearbook to be a complete record. However, we hope that it will at least be suggestive of the complete story of this year. In an attempt to cover the year more fully, we wish to recognize the accomplishments of the students listed be- low, realizing that any such listing is bound to be imcomplete. Some accomplishments--perhaps the most im- portant ones--can't be listed; some of them can't even be known to any but the person involved. We hope, though, that this list and the entire RAMBLER, while not complete, will suggest to you the many happenings that made the 1966-67 school year a special one.
