The next four years, for the class of 1973, will be perhaps even more important than your years of high school, because you will be more clearly identifying your aspirations and completing your plans for the future. Those of you who matriculate at college will, for the most part, have your continuing preparation charted for you. Those of you who do not plan to continue your formal education should identify your talents and reconcile them to your preparation for your life's endeavor. For both groups these years must be used prudently if individual potential is not to be wasted. That you may realize the importance of your continuing preparation for your personal benefit and the benefit of society is my most sincere wish for all of you. J. David Nuttall. Principal iw. Q. We developed a tremendous friendship, fantastic spirit. loyalty to our- selves as a team, and a great desire to win, even though the results were lacking. We had many strong players who never let up when the chips were down. We found that winning a game wasn't as meaningful as the satisfaction we received from playing as a team united. Miss Hood, our coach, instilled the drive we needed to regain our con- fidence and spirit when things looked bad. Now for the captains and other seniors, Field Hockey has ended but the memorable games and long. hard practices will never be forgotten. E. With lots of energy and dedication but little experience. the B.M.H.S. soccer team was initiated on Sept. 13. 1972. Through the endless teaching of our highly spirited coach, Mr. Bill Altieri. we, the soccer team, established our- selves as competition to all of our oppo- nents. We played all of our games the best we could and we had never been beaten badly in any of them. On the contrary, we had slaughtered our oppo- nent on six occasions. We had a strong finish with a winning record of 8-4-2. 'We hope that those who follow will do better in the years to come. when we have been long forgotten. We the members of the soccer team. would like to thank all those who gave us the opportunity to participate in this great sport, especially Mr. Gracie. Mr. Alteri. and Mr. Carrier. Baseball X The 1972 Edition of Billerica Indians had a very dismal season. Pitching was the main problem. There were. however. a few highlights. A 5-0 win over Cham- pion Methuen was the highest point of the season. The Indians were the first to break Methuen's undefeated streak of ten games. Jeff Coombs was excellent in his starting role as pitcher. Mike Woodford and Mike Aquilino were solid captains and played excellent baseball. Tom Turco was the stickman ot' the team, while sophomore Paul Ham- ilton became a legitimate high school ball player. George Garabedian played a fine second base for the Indians all year. Pitching will be stronger in 1973 with Jeff Coombs. Paul Hamilton. and junior Mark Shermahorn as experienced play- ers. Last year's hustle will hopefully car- ry over to 1973. Joe Higgins and left' Coombs were chosen to captain the 1973 baseball squad. Mike Aquilino and Tom Turco can both be considered as most valuable players for the 1972 season. . Because of 1972 graduation, young players had to make a quick adjustment to high school playing. They developed an effective team with veteran Billy Russell becoming M.V.P. and Mike Mastrullo becoming one of the best defensive linemen in the league. Playing well throughout the season, Billerica nearly lost the Champion- ship with two defeats but came back strongly to shut out Wilming- ton 7-0 in the last game of the regular season to win the M.V.C. Championship. Congratulations and on to the State Hockey Finals. .,..-A fn?- 1 . ,IA -wif' N - . . ' .ev 'G Ap 4. X A. K ,jf an '22 'W v -x I ff' N. H x J f ..-. .
