The players and coaches of the 1971-1972 Hockey Team dedicate the successes and awards of their team to the living memory of Mr. Arvilla. We understand, though it is difficult, the reality that we did gain from our short association with our former coach. For those who played for and worked with Mr. Arvilla, the reality of his ab- sence is even more striking. A great part of Mr. Arvilla's life was hockey. and we were part of this. We will remember him as he lived and coached. We will remem- ber a friend. ' 4 ' The 1971 Baseball Season, like the weather, was very erratic. Our team seemed to be one game off the top of the League all year. Our l-0 defeat at Dracut did the most to hurt our title chances. The whole season came down to the final game with Burlington. It seemed odd that this game was a make up game for our first game of the year way back on April 4. Billerica was defeated 3- 2 in a tension packed ll-inning game at home. With this defeat we lost a share of the Merrimack Valley title and berth in the State Tournament. Outstanding performances must be singled out. John Foley and Brian Rose were chosen as M.V.C. all stars. Mike Giblin was chosen as the teams M.V.P. Both John Foley and Brian Rose were the leaders of this team. Each pitched and hit in several crucial wins. Foley was our short man on the pitching staff while Rose was the game winner. Brian appeared in 16 out of 17 games. while John pitched the only complete game. Looking forward to the 1972 sea- son our problem is pitching. This is a universal problem. Our cap- tains are Mike Aquilino and Mike Woodford. They will lead a fairly veteran team on the field this year. George Garabedian, Tim New- fell, Bob Danehey, and Tom Turco, are all back for a successful year. John McGuinness and Jeff Coombs are expected to help out in the pitching phase of the game, while our keystone combination of Aquilino and Garabedian are expected to sew up the infield. Catch- ing is strong with Woodford and Turco. Joe Higgins is coming off an operation and is expected to completely fill the void left by Scott in center field. The four corners remain open. Success is the name of the game. Winning is success. This year's staff and friends were attempting their first such production with no past knowledge of how to go about it. We learned by our many mistakes. It is a lot easier to read a yearbook and say it is nice or it is rotten than to produce ideas and put them on paper, believe us! We sympathize with no reader. only with those who labored with us in enclosing our BHMS memo- ries within two pieces of green cardboard. It would not have gotten Hnished without you guys. Thanks Hen- ry, Jack, Pat, Sue, Bob, Gloria, Joe, Kathy, Debbie, Linda and everyone else who took the time to get off their cQ?8!S and help out instead of criticizing negatively. To our advisors, Miss Richards and Mr. Richardson, we hope you don't have to put up with this again next year. We hope we were successful in capturing the mood and memories of BMHS and that you can associate with it and re- member it as a happy experience. Thanks for the memories.
