Donkey basketball, proms. spaghetti suppers, variety shows, etc., are all an integral part of high school life. The credit for their existence and success also falls to the class advisor. From here you will now select diverse paths leading to other educational institutions, to vocations, to military service, to marriage. Regardless of your particular selection, you will need three ingredients for personal satisfaction and happiness. One, is the Willingness to accept responsibilityg two, is the sincere attempt to relate well with other peopleg and three, the development of a sense of pride in all that you do. There are many people who expend the least effort on every phase of their daily labors, and yet they expect the ,greatest return for their minimal effort. Do more, do as much as your physical and mental ability will allow and you will reap a harvest of satisfaction, recog- nition, and achievement regardless of your chosen profession or vocation. -J. Four short years of associations, activities, and study, for the class of 1971, the last four years have meant laughter, fun, work, and play. Mr. Zigarmi was the advisor to our class during our freshman year. Like the freshman senators in Congress, this was our year to be seen and not heard . There was much excitement during our campaign for class oflicers-posters, slogans, and promises. Our duly elected otlicers were: President. Edward Jenkinsg Vice-President. Mi- riam Tiltong Secretary, Kathy MacLean3 and Treasurer, Kathy Gla- vin. We collected dues diligently, and quietly, we planned our social debut into the social calender of Billerica Memorial High School. We continued to be a cool class during our sophomore year 1968-1969. This was the year we selected our individual clubs and activities. Need it be said that sports, F.T.A., Future Nurses, Spanish Club, German Club. and Math League all felt the mark of our exis- tence. and. no doubt. became a little bit better because of our selec- tive membership. lt was during our sophomore year that we held our first social, the Sophomore Dance. Perhaps, it did not swell our treasury, but it was a social success. Edward Jenkins and Miriam Tilton retained their offices as Presi- dent and Vice-President. New to the scene were Jean Lilly. Secre- tary: and Michele Carpenter. Treasurer. - 152 During our junior year. l969el970. the enthusiasm and interest we had hid behind our cool began to penetrate to the surface. Miss Theresa Re became our advisor. She brought to us many idcas and much enthusiasm. Our class officers for this year were: PresidentiBunky Davis Vice PresidentfPaula Fichera Secretary-Helen Dolan Treasurer-Michele Carpenter How thrilled we were when our class rings arrived. Wearing our rings was like a symbol that we now belonged. Penny Bonanzai' was not only a successful dance financially. but also socially. Counting pennies can be fun when you collect thou- sands of them! Washing cars on an icy cold day proved to be another fun-fund- raising event. Of course. it might have rained instead of being cold- and that would have been a real catastrophe. Memories of the home room representatives on donkeys as they played against the male faculty in the Donkey Basketball Game are still vivid and amusing. The varied-colored striped uniforms of the women cheerleaders tmembers of our facultyb added to their profes- sional maneuvers and acrobatic stunts! Green carnations and a cake sale on St. Patrick's day loosed up the purse strings of our Irish classmates and swelled the roll of our treasury. ,I-3 Ar' rxzf +-i May I6. l97Oea date to be remembered by alleour .lunior Prom had finally arrived. The Rolling Green was a pretty sight that ex e- ning with llowing gowns and colored tux. lt sure was A Time for Us . And then came Purdy. the photographer. to make arrangements for our senior pictures. Such anticipation! 153 September. l97OHSENlORS at last! Everyone loved the pins and tie-tacs with '71 in- scribed on them! Daisy Mae and L'il Abner came alive at our Sadie Hawkins Dance. What a band and what a night! Bertha Packardk posters really were great. L'il Abner didn't have a chance with all the Daisy Maes. Chateau DeVille never saw the like ot' it before. Our wonderful Senior Prom! All our anticipation and preparation was realized on June 4. 1971. f' L 155 sv- My f-s f i II' 1 Finally, the parting ofthe ways and the receiving of our diplomas. Graduation-June 1971. How much that scroll really means to us-a stepping stone tothe future crossroads! To Miss Theresa Re, we express our thanks and gratitude for all her help and assistance. To Mr. Philip Breen and Miss Miriam Buckley. our yearbook advisors, we say Thanks , To Miss Ann Splaine, the N.H.S. advisor, we are grateful for her time and advice.
