Hamlet, I 111 The aim of a good educational system is to develop the intellectual, physical. and social qualities of its pu- pils to the fullest. Always underlying each educational program is the continuing lesson of self-honesty. By example. direction and training each pupil is urged to pursue such virtue because once attained. it will for- ever be the springboard of all success. You have com- pleted an important phase of your life. However, you must remember that the present we have for a fleeting moment-a moment in which we are permitted and required to end the past and begin the future. There is nothing we can do to change the past. The future is just beyond our grasp, but it begins tomorrow. We can improve the presentg we can plan the futureg and we can go forth to meet that future with confidence and with a strong heart. We can if we will. M fl l r , -it l A QQWWW f,1 fix You, the Class of 1968, have satisfactorily com- pleted a prescribed course of study in Billeriea Memo- rial High School and will soon be awarded a secondary school diploma in testimony thereof. You have partici- pated with your teachers in a cooperative search in the past four years for new knowledge and expanded wis- dom which is, l hope, for many of you only the begin- ning as you endeavor to become a truly educated indi- vidual positively contributing to the problems of civil society which, in many instances, entail complex and sometimes unique solutions. The older generation has always been concerned about the direction and the formation of youth, specifi- cally concerned with their philosophy of life. Yet. you are better instructed, possess more intelligence. and have a more acute awareness of life as it exists than we enjoyed at a similar stage of development. You have the individual and the collective ability to become an explorer in every area of human concern and once explored. to comprehend, to solve. and to enlighten man in his relations with others in human society.
