Hamlet, I 111 The aim of a good educational system is to develop the intellectual, physical. and social qualities of its pu- pils to the fullest. Always underlying each educational program is the continuing lesson of self-honesty. By example. direction and training each pupil is urged to pursue such virtue because once attained. it will for- ever be the springboard of all success. Please accept my congratulations and best wishes. William H. Flaherty. Jr. A 5.xi.s'lan1 SllfIC'I'llll6'llll6'I1l uf Schools Congratulations to the class of 1968. You have com- pleted an important phase of your life. However, you must remember that the present we have for a fleeting moment-a moment in which we are permitted and required to end the past and begin the future. There is nothing we can do to change the past. The future is just beyond our grasp, but it begins tomorrow. We can improve the presentg we can plan the futureg and we can go forth to meet that future with confidence and with a strong heart. We can if we will. I urge you to go forth to meet the future without fear, determined to deliver to your successors a more effective world. Frederick C. Riel Superintendent of Schools --'il Adj- M fl l r , -it l A QQWWW f,1 fix You, the Class of 1968, have satisfactorily com- pleted a prescribed course of study in Billeriea Memo- rial High School and will soon be awarded a secondary school diploma in testimony thereof. You have partici- pated with your teachers in a cooperative search in the past four years for new knowledge and expanded wis- dom which is, l hope, for many of you only the begin- ning as you endeavor to become a truly educated indi- vidual positively contributing to the problems of civil society which, in many instances, entail complex and sometimes unique solutions. The older generation has always been concerned about the direction and the formation of youth, specifi- cally concerned with their philosophy of life. Yet. you are better instructed, possess more intelligence. and have a more acute awareness of life as it exists than we enjoyed at a similar stage of development. You have the individual and the collective ability to become an explorer in every area of human concern and once explored. to comprehend, to solve. and to enlighten man in his relations with others in human society. May you accept the challenge and with an untlag- ging effort achieve the reward of your labors is my desire for you, the Class of 1968. J. David Nuttall, Principal No matter what line of endeavor you may choose in life I John D. O'Brien x would like to leave you with a simple formula for success Always keep in mind the view of your employer God bless you and good luck in whatever lies ahead fl' Vice-Principal k l aggt Congratulations Class of '68 on having successfully com- pleted your high school education. You have learned a great deal while at school and hopefully you will continue to learn something new every day of your life, for without knowledge life is indeed meaningless. William V. Many thanks for the cooperation, enthusiasm, and endeavor with which you have brought your high school career to a close. For a dozen years you have traveled through the various school grades together. Some of you have worked to capacity and others have not, but you have all learned much. Perhaps you have learned that you will get out of a thing what you put into it. May you all have the opti- mism, idealism, and courage to lead happy and suc- cessful lives. Gertrude D. Houghton Adviser Soon our high school days will be but memories. Some, we will recall always-the Powder Puff Football Game, the Spaghetti Supper, the Junior Prom, and the Senior,Prom. We have these memories because of the tireless efforts of our Class Adviser. Her devotion in our behalf deserves our gratitude and thanks. In appre- ciation, We, the Class of 1968, would like to dedicate our memories of Billerica Memorial High School to Mrs. Houghton, our adviser. The 1968 Billerica Varsity Baseball team was the winningest schoolboy team in Massachusetts with 20 wins and 4 losses. This was also the most successful season in the history of Billerica High School. Our Indians captured the Merrimack Valley Baseball championship for the first time in 20 years and entered the State playoffs for the first time in 10 years. Captain Bill Sullivan provided outstanding leadership and became the first Billerica ball player to make the Massachusetts all-scholastic baseball team. Bob Glaser, the team's outstanding player, was the winningest schoolboy pitcher in New England. Outstanding spirit and good talent were the keys to our success. The same keys could help Billerica successfully defend their crown in 1969. ! '! ls! 'W han' fr-' V M' '- B. M. H. S.
