THE WARRIOR BILLERICA MEMORIAL HIGH SCHOOL BILLERICA, MASSACHUSETTS Sports Literary Photography J[. li M 1 — mmm The 1965 Warrior Staff ■ ai i feJ€FT3 Miss Jahnle, Adviser Mr. Lavoie, Business Manager Business and Advertising X Our Vice-Principal often has the unpleasant and rather frustrating task of maintaining disci- pline in our school. It is highly doubtful that any- one envies him this necessary task, although we all must envy him his striking good humor and equanimity. In view of his many services, we take this opportunity to express our appreciation to Mr. Nuttall. In Appreciation Who in this school does not immediately rec- ognize the voice of Mrs. Currie? There are few who have not on some occasion received her will- ing help. Whether announcing an upcoming event on the school calendar or just making life easier around the office, we feel that her value to the school is not always fully appreciated. We take this opportunity to express our appreciation to Mrs. Currie. In addition to her normal teaching duties, one teacher has devoted much of her time and effort to aiding this and other yearbook staffs in pre- senting successful publications. She has also helped to send many students from the business course on their way to successful careers. In rec- ognition of her years of fine service and gener- ously volunteered assistance, we take this oppor- tunity to express our appreciation to Miss Jahnle. 4 1 Our school is not merely a faculty, some students, and a few classrooms. It is something with that unique quality which sets it apart from any other institution of its kind; it is something with a personality. What creates this personality? It is a compound of many factors; but when one examines this more closely, he sees it influenced chiefly by one man. This person fills a job which brings him constantly in contact with students, teachers, and parents alike. In his position, he has suc- ceeded in infusing into the character of this school some measure of his own vital personality. He is not only an able administrator but also an inspiration to all who meet him. It is largely due to his efforts that we will owe the attainment of our future goals. We of the senior class extend our deepest gratitude and best wishes for the future to our Principal, Mr. Chester D. Ingraham. 5 No man can reveal to you aught but that which already lies half asleep in the dawning of your knowledge. “The teacher who walks in the shadow of the temple, among his followers, gives not of his wisdom but rather of his faith and his lovingness. “If he is indeed wise he does not bid you enter the house of his wisdom, but rather leads you to the threshold of your own mind . . .” “For the vision of one man lends not its wings to another man. “And even as each one of you stands alone in God’s knowledge, so must each one of you be alone in his knowledge of God and in his understanding of the earth.” Gibran 6 Class Officers William Blades, President r 1 Frederick Luciano, Vice-President Jean Sample, Secretary Donna Lorden, Treasurer 1 Gloria Sonja Abele “My object all sublime, shall achieve it in time.” Glory College Preparatory Summer of ’64 Frances E. School days rush through the stream of youth as a brook dashes from the mountains to the sea. Within this turbulence are encompassed the bubbles of emotions ever changing, constantly shifting with the pressures of goals unrealized, ambitions unfulfilled, ca- reer dreams changed, futures rearranged and psycho- logical designs for living re-established. Yet graduation is not the alpha nor the omega of one’s life nor the signal that one has been specially favored; but rather it is the “commencement” to determine the use to which each and every graduate of the Class of 1965 can utilize his or her education to foster the practical val- ues and aesthetic ideals that embrace a complete life of contributory citizenship and remunerative accomplish- ment. Chester D. Ingraham, Principal Education, essentially indefinable, relatively im- measurable, sometimes impractical, quite impondera- ble, hopefully impartible, believed imperative, often impossible is of inestimable value for those young peo- ple possessed with the foresight to seek, find, and cher- ish it. Personal happiness, true social usefulness, and a sensitivity for the evaluation of those values which en- hance our lives are precluded by the absence of it. Education is knowledge which may sire wisdom, and wisdom is a keenly textured mind capable of com- municating ideas for the improvement of world broth- erhood. This educational inheritance is not a gratuity to be lightly considered, rather, it is an incandescent hope when treaties, diplomacies, politics, armies, and riots, have failed. I, for one, am formally confident that you shall pre- vail. J. David Nuttall, Vice-Principal 58 mi iiijiUsnU::! Mr. Myles and Miss Splaine were chosen to guide — To teach us to work, and how hard they tried! Their efforts were tireless, their patience unending. Their time and advice they were constantly lending. Before we knew it elections were here; Leaders were chosen for the coming year. Billy, Donna, Steveann, and Sue Did the job of more than a few. We danced on TV one day in December, Boston Ballroom is a place we’ll always remember. Our Freshman Dance was made to order, A Spanish fiesta called “South of the Border.” Our foundation was laid for years to come. Our Freshman Year had been step number one. II At Summer’s end, we returned to find Three years ahead and one behind. Elections were first on the agenda; The following won from the many contenders: Billy, Peggy, Pam, and Donna Accepted the duty as well as the honor. In April, on a young spring night. We held a dance called “Harbor Lights.” A lighthouse tall, a ship at sea We oft recall in our reverie. Toward the year’s end, as you may recall. Cheerleaders were chosen for the upcoming fall. Two years had gone by, and all were aghast That half of our journey had so quickly passed. With marks closed at last, and summer ahead. We looked with relief to long mornings in bed. 98 III Upperclassmen at last and equaled by none, Superior to all in our work and our fun. To the polls we all went, as in all other years And elected who, we thought, were the best of our peers. Billy, Elaine, Jeannie, and Rick Were surely a team which no one could lick. Truly a symbol of our Junior Year, Were the green and white ring s which we now hold so dear. Our Junior Prom was a date to recall, “Moonlight and Roses” was enchantment for all. The students awarded for their propriety Were elected into the Honor Society. Our Yearbook Staff was carefully selected From Juniors of whom great things were expected. The year’s end drew close, we all were excited Since next, as Seniors, we would be reunited. IV The year we’d awaited was finally here — To be called a Senior was music to the ear. In a year of Presidential elections. We also made our annual selections. Billy, Fred, Donna, and Jean Were chosen to lead our year supreme. Our cake sale, social, and supper were three Of the projects which boosted our treasury. To New York City we were bound — On a Staten Isle Ferry to be found. Our thoughts raced forward to the events to be; Our prom and graduation were yet to see. The sun will look down on a graduation scene. To be held on a Sunday under sky serene. Our future stretches before us far. With high school behind us — we’ll seek our star. 99 Maureen Burke, Captain Varsity Field Hockey Billerica 1 Methuen Opponent 0 2 No. Andover 1 0 Acton-Boxboro 1 0 Dracut 0 4 Wilmington 0 0 Chelmsford 0 1 Bedford 1 1 Acton-Boxboro 2 Roberta Sloper Elaine McKenna Judy Callahan Junior Varsity Betty-Ann Eagles Joy Capodilupo Cathy Clark Susan Foley Margie Campbell 102 Capt. This is especially true of year- book publishing, in which mass production methods have the tendency to force one to buy just what the other fellow buys. Making of soap or soup or salad dress- ing by mass methods is one thing. But it is quite another to attempt to produce a creative yearbook by trying to squeeze it into some pre-conceived mold. It just can’t be done that way. The Wm. J. Keller firm brings together highly trained craftsmen, the very finest papers and ink of superlative quality. Add to these a unique service plan built around the individual school, and, finally, produc- tion by the Velvatone process, which Keller perfected especially for the printing of yearbooks, and you have a truly distin- guished performance. And a yearbook with singular character and individuality . . . we call, it “THE LOOK OF THE BOOK.’’ The yearbook you are presently leafing through is the product of the Keller custom program. If you would care to see other examples of “THE LOOK OF THE BOOK” as produced by Wm. J. Keller, get in touch with us now. WM. J. KELLER INC. Publishers of Finer Yearbooks Buffalo 15, N. Y. J. KYRICOS “Gerry” Born: October 29, 1945 Killed: June 5, 2000 BMHS Class of 1965 Cerry was someone who had always been in my life because he was my older brother. He was always there. I had a permanent place for him in my heart, mind, and soul without giving it a second thought until the day he was killed by a drunk driver. Then, that place became a huge, vast, empty space, like a cave, and all the supports around it began to crumble. Our siblings are part of our world, our everyday security, whether we are close to them or not, we are still a part of the fabric of life ' s creation. Losing someone to a drunk driver is a shock. It’s sudden, violent, and Incredibly tragic. It’s a devastating experience that one cannot fathom until having it happen in their lives. Losing Cerry is a loss that far surpasses anything I’ve eve r known. We had a very intricate, close, and special connection. I miss him and all the potential healing and growth we would have shared. I will never forget him, ever. Cerry was in great shape, had taken good care of himself, was an avid kayaker, talented photographer and former ski instructor. His kayak was on his car when it got bulldozed over onto its roof. Strangely, his kayak flew to safety, but he did not. Life is precious. It’s a gift and when someone is negligent, such as getting in their vehicle drunk, they put everyone’s life at risk. To honor Cerry, please encourage awareness in your own lives about this tragedy and how it was totally preventable. If you wish to do more, you may make a donation to honor Cerrard A. Kyricos to MADD, 1661 Worcester Road, Framingham, MA 01 701. If you wish to contact me, please do. Thank you all.
