Cibeizmfzm . At this time, we the class of 1961, would like to dedicate our Yearbook to Charles Chuck Lampson. Both in the classroom and on the athletic field, Chuck's steadying influence and personal magnetism have provided us with constant inspiration. Selflessly, Chuck has worked to better our athletic and scholastic programs. Through his bleacher fund drive we have obtained the much-needed bleachers for the baseball field, and his athletic scholarship fund will be instrumental in furthering the education of future student-athletes. XVe know that this dedication is but a small token of the esteem and high regard in which we hold Chuck, but through it we have tried to express some of our affection for him. CLASS OF 1961 For the members of the Graduating Class of 1961, I wish the ennobling qualities of heart and mind that alone can bring them true happiness and success in life. I wish them faith in God and self, love, unsellishly given and returned in full measure, hope to sustain them in dark hours, the will to work diligently in their chosen fieldsg and the fortitude to meet life's challenge in the spirit of A. li. Housman's beautiful lines from Reveille : Clay lies still but l1loozl's a rmferg Brcatlfs a ware that will Hot keep. Up lad: wlzwz the journeys over Tlzcre'll be time enough to sleep. MARY C. They have been four eventful years, climaxed by our Senior year. An enjoyable and rewarding year, we have made it also a memorable one. Time conquers all, yet is time able to erase something as enduring as memories? Not if they are the recollections of achievement, joy, and friendship such as we have encountered. Time has rushed us through these years, but gradua- tion is no indication of its victory. YVe shall recall these moments long after our diplomas are covered with dust, and shall treasure forever the memories of Billerica Memorial High. I ii E a V . il 1 fl t ll,- ,lf 1 ' ' ff. A great deal of team spirit and rugged determination enabled our battling XVarriors to win all but three of their regular season games. Although we lost the game in fact, we won a moral victory in the most glorious game of the season with our traditional rival, Chelmsford, on Thanksgiving Day. It is with an undaunted spirit that the football team of 1960 leaves to its successors a record to be looked upon always with pride. Zlfffzge Hello boys! Bzz, bzz, bzz. Finishing fourth in the standings, Billerica was a strong Suburban League Competition. Highlights of the season were an upset win over Xllilming- ton High School in the last few minutes of play and the brilliant defeat of Dracut High School at our home court. Both captains, Richardson and Herlihy were chosen to represent Billerica in the Suburban League all-star game for 1961, an honor justly earned by these boys. Seniors who are expected to add to the team this year will be Frank Bernarducci, XVilliam Rebinskas, Ronald Burton, lack Perry, Steven Coombs, john Balboni, Harold Charest, and Robert Solomon. On the sports scene, this fall was the first time in the history' of' Miss Hoods i'Bloomer Girls that they ever went undefeated in field hockey. Because of the lack of sife and the fact that only two men returned from last year's varsity' squad, the pre-season predictions for our football team were pessimistic. However, with the drive and determination of' our coaches, headed by Chuck, the team spirit lifted and the boys went on to win 5 games, tie l, lose 2. This energetic team had for its captains: joe Motufas, Doug Dooley and Man ffarwell. Among the other activities of this memorable fall were the rallies, victory rides, dances and rehearsals for the Dramatic Clubs presentation, llary est lfrolicsf' The decorating for the annual Christmas Dance was soon underway, bringing with it the election of our Snow Queen. Chosen as our loyely and most deserving Queen was Martha Dunn with her senior attendants linda Barton, Brenda Marshall, and Paula Brackett, and undergrads Phoebe Mitchell, Barbara lXfcGuinness, and liileen Buchanan. The girls' basketball team, under co-captains Alice Miner and ,lanet Callahan, not only' headed the Suburban league, but went on to capture the Ashby' Tournament. The other seniors composing this forinidable team included Mary' Gill and Brenda Marshall. At the tournament, co-captain Alice Miner was selected as most valuable player of the year and our cheerleaders won a trophy for the most outstanding squad there. The most difficult and important undertaking of our class was the publish- ing of this yearbook. We realize that without the patience and untiring efforts of our advisors, Miss Belcher and Miss Mcliuffie, none of' it would have been possible. With all these fond memories behind us and our Senior Prom and Class Trip yet to come, we are looking ahead to graduation with mixed emotions. N. 3 x,. ,, 1 4-- 1 . v..ff ,.- vwma an .Q ,-...f N.
