ADMINISTRATION Dr. Robert G. Witten Superintendent of Schools “DO NOT FOLLOW WHERE THE PATH MAY LEAD GO INSTEAD WHERE THERE IS NO PATH AND LEAVE A TRAIL is the theme chosen by the Class of 86 for their MIRROR The preparatory years have provided each student in the senior class with the opportunity to explore, to learn, and to develop leadership skills which they will need in order to venture where others have not been Leadership comes in many coats It is not just the President of the United States and the corporate board chairman, but the everyday worker who can and should demonstrate his leadership skills. To do this, it lakes some unique characteristics of the individual For instance, a leader needs to be a risk laker — one who is willing to try new methods or ideas where the possibility of failure could occur Many believe that failure at something is the end of the world and that it should be avoided rather than to make the attempt Author John W Gardner in his writing. NO EASY VICTORIES, stated “One of the reasons mature people stop learning a that they become less and less willing to risk failure “ Failure can be instructive The person who really thinks, learns quite as much from his failures as from his successes The only people who never fail arc those who never try Willingness to try and try again is characteristic of the leader and of the winner This in turn takes belief in one's self It takes courage to face the uncertainty of success or failure It takes courage to believe in yourself so strongly that others will also believe in you as a leader and in what you want to accomplish Those who have the courage to try and to solve new problems of life arc the ones who raise society to greatness Those who merely live according to the standards do not advance society, but only carry it along Carrying society along a bo has its importance in maintaining stability, but to continue to reach out for the betterment of mankind is critical for growth and progress Reaching out takes vision, being able to sec what others are unable to see. It's true that people see things very much in terms of what others have seen It's simply a question of the originality of a person's vision All can see the Picasso, but not all can sec new designs of art. Leadership is situational, but there arc five basic rules that all should remember They arc: 1. Always give people the credit that is rightfully theirs Todo otherwise is both morally and ethically dishonest 2. Be courteous Have genuine consideration for other people s feelings, wishes and situations. J. Never tamper with the truth Never rationalize What you might like to believe n not necessarily the truth 4 Be concise in your wnting and talking, especially when giving instructions to others 5. Be generous Remember, it is the productivity of others that makes possible your leadership position CLASS OF 1986 in simplest terms, be one who knows where you want to go in life Get up and go Best of luck to you in pursuing your dreams, your desires, and your future. TO EVERYONE A CHANCE. REGARDLESS OF BIRTH. A GOLDEN OPPORTUNI- TY. THE RIGHT TO LIVE. TO WORK. TO BE ONESELF THIS IS THE PROMISE OF AMERICA % 2
