Mr. Richard Boyce Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Are you willing to work hard to find room at the top? Too often we want to start at the top and are not willing to work up to that loftier position from the so-called bottom of the ladder. Some of us are too “proud to accept a lesser step that would eventually lead to the higher paying and more prestigious level. Very few of us ever take advantage or utilize but a small portion of the God-given talents and abilities with which we were born. What a terrible waste that can never be redeemed! If we are not ready to make a commitment, we can find many excuses and alibies to justify our existence in life! What we fail to realize is that if we make a commitment in our life's work there will be room at the top for any and all who strive for this quality of excellence. Row 1 — Barbara Garretson, Clair Fetters, Richard Slaybaugh, James Clarke Row 2 — Hobart Benchoff, Harold Griffie, O. Guy Mellott, Robert Eicholtz 5

Mr. Kenneth M. Cassell, Jr. High School Principal As we look ahead to the future of our students, we cannot successfully set our goals until we examine our past. One of the greatest assets we experience in life is the ability to see our mistakes, correct what we can, and press on. No day starts better than the one that begins with the thought: “Today is the day I will begin ' Tomorrow is the hour of hope, yesterday is the hour of experience, but, today, is the hour of beginning. With these thoughts tucked inside of our consciousness, we can face each day with the feeling of facing new challenges that no one before us has had to face. We can see our uniqueness in the 1980's as never before. Here in this decade, we have seen the introduction of computers into our learning experiences that can reach unlimited heights, and, with the space-age satellites, we can communicate with other areas of our world as never before. Who, in our nation's historical past would have believed that all this technology would become reality in just two centuries? With these thoughts in mind, we can examine our past as individuals, also, and commit ourselves to a better future. We can, and must, remember that now is when dreams are realized and now is where our future is formed. Let us all have the insight it takes within us, and the commitment to ourselves, our students, our teachers, our families and our community to truly say: “We are on the rise in '85! Larry Kennedy, Richard G. Boyce, Gayle Griffie, Dr. Robert Witten, Helen D. Rex, Kenneth M. Cassell, Jr., Ronald Ebbert 4
