Before this time we had been content to busy ourselves with games, frivolity, and other pastimes which our parents undoubtedly thought were adorable for horriblej. But when that fateful September arrived we were suddenly trans- formed into perfect little ladies and gentlemen -- well, almost. Under the watchful supervision of our patient teachers, we crept up the Ladder of Learning, until one warm Spring evening it hap- pened - the 6th grade Promotional Exercises of 1960. What a handsome group we were as we posed for our pictures to be taken! What a happy group we were - we had reached our first educational plateau. As proud, happy, and sophisticated Seventh Graders we gathered together in September of 1960. We soon discovered that we werenit proud or sophisticated, but we were happy Seventh Graders. With the assistance of all our teachers we quickly over- came that lonely and lost feeling and settled down to business. With Mrs. Deatrick as our advisor, we elected Wayne Crum as the Hrst president of the Class of 566. Little did we realize then the wonderful things that B.H.S. 'held in store for us. A In eighth grade we acquired Mrs. Sheely as our advisor, and under the competent female leadership of officers Kris Lady, Tonya Krouse, Pat Coradetti, and Charleen Thompson, we forged ahead. The highlight of this year was our first class project - a Mardi Gras Costume Dance. We decorated the gym beautifully and even awarded prizes to make our own little Mardi Gras a success. As Fabulous Freshmenj, we began to realize what school was all about - homework became a nasty word in our vocabulary. However, we also reaped our share of benefits as a class, including exciting and interesting tours of our county and state governmental seats. Eileen Kennedy was our elected president. It was easy to tell us apart from the other classes when we were f'Snazzy Sophomoresf' We were the students who carried boxes of candy to sell everywhere we went. Our class coffers began to fill with proceeds from apple picking and our other projects as we worked toward every class' ultimate goal- N.Y.C. Our other spare mements were spent in choosing a stone for our class rings, learning to drive, and, oh yes, doing lots and lots of homework. Richard Hartman, Steve Slaybaugh, Charleen Thompson, and Michele Seemann provided the leadership for our tenth year. The Jolly Juniorsn chose James Bosserman, Gary Hoffman, Shirley Baldwin, and Connie Fetters as class officers, received their class rings with great rejoicing, and then settled down to the beautiful business of preparing a prom. We left traces of our efforts everywhere: The foul stench of paint permeated the school halls and St. Paulis old church building, stacks of Dixie cups seemed to fill hundreds of lockers, paper masks lurked around every corner, and the Conewago Creek teemed with plant cuttings. Under the competent leadership of our prom chairman, Sandra Trone, we were ready in time. On May 21, 1965, we pre- sented our gift to the Class of 1965. The cafeteria was transformed into an enchanted tropical jungle, complete with wild animals, waterfalls, various mosses, voo-doo huts, and even native dancers. Our hours of preparation were, we felt, well worthwhile. Everyone enjoyed his visit to our Enchanted Isle. Page 45 W Even before we officially began our senior year, good things began to happen to us - our class was enriched by one of the nicest exchange students we've ever met - Inger Sundlby. Our new friend from Norway, Inger Sundby, is a fascinating person. Here are just a few glimpses into her interests and activities. Inger likes to go mountain climbing, skiing, and skating. Looking for bio- logical plant and animal specimens also absorbs much of her time outdoors. She likes jazz and classical music, two of her favorite composers are Chopin and Tschaikowsky. Since she lives near the city, Inger often attends the theater. She especially enjoys the works of Henrik Ibsen, a nineteenth-century Norwegian play- wright specializing in character study works. Inger started a Christian youth club offering teenagers recreation and spiritual inspiration three years ago. It is now a member of the Indoor Mission of Norway. Recently Inger has read The Wall written by Jean-Paul Sartre, an existent- ialist writer. Her comment on existentialism? It interests me, but I couldn't build my life on it. One thing, however, which Inger supports wholeheartedly is A.F.S. She hopes that through A.F.S. the world's youth are building a web of friendship to cover the globe. This summer Inger will return to Norway where she will finish her senior year and then enter a teaching school or the University of Oslo to study languages or biology. Page 47 Cnce our year had started, money-making became the big objective. Seniors could be seen picking apples at 7 a.m. on Saturdays, selling cokes, hot chocolate, and anything else at football games, and knocking on doors to sell anything from magazines to hoagies. The Class of '66 also found time to stage a successful play, 'fOur Town, hold a winter ball, and keep B.H.S. rolling in style. We've experienced all the trials and tribulations of Seniordom - the gruelling batteries of CEEB and aptitude tests, the nerve-shattering waiting period for college acceptance, selection of announcements and photos, the production of the MIRROR '66, and, above all, our glorious trip to New York. After three marvelous days of the big city, we settled down to study for exams and get ready for graduation. Many cases of Hsenioritisw appeared. However, with Don Taylor, Richard Hartman, Shirley Baldwin, and Pat Coradetti as our class officers, Mrs. Sheely as our advisor, and the entire adminis- tration at our side, we believe that we have weathered every storm. Wie sincerely hope that we will be able to reflect credit on all the persons who have helped us in our high school years when 'fwe enter life's great battle and high school days are oierf' Page 48 x X w w I 1 1 if YQ .1 33 if, TES 5 fm. This was the year we joyous- ly received our garnet stone class rings, and this was the year we spent hectic but memorable and fun- Hlled weeks piecing together our prom decorations with hopes and prayers. During football season our battle cry was we need more rolls! for hot dogsjf, This was the year we chose our motto Dare to be Dif- ferent. Yes, this was a memorable year for our class. But next year we will continue collecting knowledge and friendships, and memories more precious than silver and gold. Sie The Sophomore Class, Wlth Mr. - Laughman as advisor, has one main project this year - candy. At every athletic event some faithful members of the Sophomore Class can be seen peddling the sweet confections. Although this is the class, main source of revenue, we have undertaken several other projects to increase the wealth of our class treasury. We sponsored a dance and at- tempted various other schemes to stabilize our economic status. All in all the class is certainly well on its way to a memor- able Senior year. After school the boys could be seen sprinting about the streets of B-ville and over the hills and valleys nearby. Though they practiced painstak- ingly, their efforts were not re- warded with any wins. The team will seek revenge next year. The hockey team had a somewhat disappointing season this year in comparison with the first year's record. The Cannerettes' '64 season ended in a 5-0 overall. Although the girls had determination and played well, they failed to hit the winneris column. The closest they came was a 0-0 dead- lock with a team at the Girls' Hockey Field Day in Dillsburg. The girls failed to score a point that day, but a strong defense kepit a championship team to scoring only one point. One of our team members suffered an unfor- tunate accident. She had a run-ini' with a hockey ball which resulted in a broken nose. However, she will be in good shape next season and the team will expect much from Nancy Hale. Another highlight in the season, especially to Senior girls, was the hockey letters. All seniors received a six-inch black chenille letter wit-h gold hockey sticks crossed in the center. These letters will be awarded to the girls the following years who meet the specified requirements.
