EXC ANGE TUDE T ANA MARIA OLIVERA Three in a bed. Ana Maria, our present exchange student at Biglerville, hails from Montevideo, Uruguay, where her father is a real estate agent. She has a younger brother, Julio Cesar. Ana arrived by plane in Miami at the end of August. She finally got to her home', with Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Fox of Bendersville the day before scvhool began. Ana studied English for four years at the Uruguayan Center of English Studies using the Whitaker method. She also speaks French and Italian. During the school year in Uruguay, Ana studies very hard for the comprehensive examinations held in the Spring. All summer, how- ever, she relaxes at the famous seaside resort of Piriapolis. Ana has enjoyed many new experiences in America, such as snow and ice skating. Foot- ball and basketball games were very exciting for her. She has grown to like American foods, especially fried chicken and her mothers, desserts. As a member of the Senior class Ana is studying English, American history, P. O. D. and economics, advanced math and typing. Page 18 2 W?'M ,AW L W af. We felt terribly important when we looked back to those two years as lowly 7th and 8th graders, but when we looked ahead we saw we still had a long way to go before that time when we would be Seniors. In band, choir, Honor Society, clubs, Jr. High Student Council, and sports we showed our enthusiasm and boundless energy. One highlight of the year was the trip to the County Court House as part of our Civics course. Under President Richard Dull and Advisor Miss Lupp, we began our march to Seniordom. 1960 As 'fSilly Sophomroresl' we began to wonder where we would ever find money for our Prom by the next year. With Jim Oyler as president and Mr. Laird as advisor we dug in and busily sold candy at noon and at football and basketball games to raise the needed funds. In class we all began serious study in the curriculum each had chosen. 1961 Our first big thrill as ujolly Juniorsw was receiving our class rings in the fall. justifiably proud, we showed them to anyone who would look. By sell- ing hot dogs and popcorn at games and picking apples in the fall we con- siderably increased our treasury. For one hectic week we feverishly worked to transform the gym into Moonlight Gardens by bringing inside the out- of-doors. Gary Bream, our president, and Mr. White, our advisor, were proud of the fine job the class had done. 1962 - The Year finally arrived. At last we were Seniors. With great enthusiasm we threw ourselves into the task of earning enough money to send us to New York. By selling coffee and cokes at games, picking apples, selling candy and school jackets we finally secured the needed sum. We found time, be- tween other activities, to present 'fDear Diary as our Senior play, and the Angels Few battled the Devi1's Dozen in a rousing girls' football game. With Jim Oyler again at our head, we tried to combat 'fSenior-itis, but we were not always successful. We, the Class of 1963, wish to express our gratitude and appreciation to all those who have taught and guided us through our unforgettable years at B. H. S. To all future classes we wish all of the success and happiness that we have known. Now we turn our faces forward, confident that the preparation we have received at B. H. S. will be our firm foundation for the future. Page 40 60 -61 -62 63 Spin the bottle, anyone? Book reports? Rub-a-dub-dub. Mr. America. And where's the Easter Bunny? Double, double, toil and trouble.
