Page 15 In Memoriam Mr. Leslie V. Stock We, the Class of ’60, realize that this book of memories would not be complete without a thought of one of the past local leaders of education, Professor Leslie V. Stock. He held many important positions in the field of education including President of the Southern District of the Pennsylvania State Education Association. In 1947, he formed a jointure in Biglerville which was one of the first in the state. It was used as a model for the jointures that followed. Beginning as a teacher, he later became the High School Principal and finally Principal of the Upper Adams School System. He served the school and community a total of 35 years. He was an active member of the church and Lions Club. For ten years, he was a very important part of our school life. He was loved and respected by both students and teachers who worked under him. The loss of a good friend and leader was not only felt in the school but also in the life of the entire community. This was our first step toward “Sophisticated Seniors.” We displayed our talents by participating in band, choir, sports, Honor Society, plays, and other activities. During this eventful year, we visited the County Court House and the State Capitol. The class elected Vance Johnston as its president and Mr. Shetter was our class advisor. II 1957 - 58 As “Saucy Sophomores,” we elected Vance Johnston as our president. We sold candy at noon and at games to earn money for our Jr. - Sr. Prom which seemed to be coming very fast. III 1958 - 59 Finally we became “Jolly Juniors” and were very proud of our “Evening in Paris,” which we gave for the Seniors. Also, we received our class rings, which we displayed very proudly. This year we sold jackets, hot dogs, pretzels, and had food sales. Vance Johnston was our president. IV I960 With much proudness we reach the coveted name “Sophisticated Seniors.” We had 80 very energetic members in our class. We sold candy, jackets, cokes, coffee, doughnuts, sponsored dances, food sales, and many other things to earn money for our Senior trip. We elected a very able president, Jack Frantz. We are all looking forward to the big night when we receive our diplomas, but we can never forget all the wonderful times we had in good ole’ B.H.S. We, the Class of ’60, wish to express our appreciation to those who made these years pleasant and successful. To the classes that follow we wish success and happiness as we have gained from our Alma Mater. And so, finally, we say: “So long, B.H.S.; keep moving forward.” With you we leave many fond memories and wonderful friendships. We were eager and willing to learn. We took part in a variety of activities. During our freshman year we visited the County Court House and the State Capitol. Being sophomores, we had a successful roller skating party, sold hot dogs, and candied apples to earn money for the Junior-Senior Prom. Now, as “Jolly Juniors,” we have our class rings. We participate in many sports and music activities. Through these activities many of us entered Senior B-Club. As our leader this year, we have chosen Fred Hartzel. We are now looking forward to next year, our BIG year. Page 72 Varsity Football This year’s football team was very successful under the coaching of Jack Emanuel. A total of 10 games was played, of which 8 were won and only 2 were lost. The losses, one with Cedar Cliff and the other with Littlcstown, were both away games. Playing through mud, rain, and cold, the team managed to finish second in the Lower Susquehanna Confer- ence, which was won by East Pennsboro. Although both teams had perfect league records, East Pennsboro received first place honors by virtue of the point system. Our star halfback, Kermit Jacoby, the league’s leading scorer with a total of 120 points, was selected to the All-Lower Susquehanna Foot- ball Conference team. Gary Breighner, Wayne Schwartz, Barry Birgensmith, Vance Johnston, and Ken Fetters received honor- able mentions. Page 73 Varsity This year, for the first time in several years, the Canners failed to come up with a winning season. The final record showed an overall log of 3 wins and 16 losses. There is nothing in the record, however, that shows the fighting spirit and hustle of our ball club. Because the Canners entered the South Penn League this year, they encountered much greater competition. However, this did not effect the fighting spirit of the boys. We hope that in the future the team will be better acquainted with the new league and will be in a better position to compete with the larger schools.
