Wm X O Senior Class Hlstor Chapter I. 1954 5 We entered the familiar premises of Biglerville High School in Sep- tember of '54 as energetic freshmen. This was the first act in our long high school career. We showed some of our talents by taking Part in sports, band, plays, and also Honor Society. During this eventful year we visited the County Court House and the State Capitol. The class elected Thomas Cline, who was formerly their president, again, and Mr. Soloski as our advisor. Chapter II. 1955 We returned in '55 with Thomas Cline as president. We sold candy at noon and also Prom Peanuts to raise money for the Junior-Senior Prom. Chapter III. 1956 For the first time in ten years our class seemed very anxious to return to school. The reason was very simple because we were waiting for our class rings. October 4 was the big day and we proudly showed them off to everyone. Our projects included selling hot dogs at football games, spon- soring food sales, dances and roller skating parties. Our big event this year was our presentation of the junior-Senior Prom Q Down by the Old Mill Streamnj. We elected William Payne as our President. Chapter IV. 1957 With much proudness we reach the coveted name - Sophisticated Seniors. We had 72 energetic people in our class. Patricia Heckenluber was elected class president. We sold candy, jackets, cokes, coffee, dough- nuts, peanuts, sponsored dances, food sales, and also a roller skating party to raise funds for our Senior trip. We are all looking forward for the big night when we receive our diplomas, but we can never forget the enjoyable times and memories from B. H. S. We want to extend our appreciation to those who made these years pleasant and successful. To the classes which follow we wish wisdom, happiness, friendship, and success as we have gained from our Alma Mater. Of course, he was basing his remarks on the number of light years it would have taken then to go to those planets. It was just yesterday that I returned from my five-day round trip to Venus and Mars. While I was visiting these foreign lands I met many of my class- mates from twenty years ago. You see - well, maybe the best way to tell you would be to let you read my diary. It all started this way - June 6, 1978 I had just picked up my passport from RUTH ANN RIDER, the clerk at the government oliice, and was walking down the corridor when I met JEAN HELLER. Jean told me that she was working at the Interplanetary Flying Saucer Corporation, owned and operated by IVAN BRETZMAN. Soon BONNIE LEHR took our order of roast DOVE, which had been shot by PARKER COBLE, who had used a HOFFMAN gun, and our order of French Pastry, from the CRUM and MILLER Pastry Shoppe. JO ORNER, the well-known dietitian, had many specials listed on the menu. Glancing around the dining room we recognized NANCY PETERS and SHIRLEY HERMAN eating hoagies. As it was getting late, I re- turned to the THOMAS Hotel. ROBERT EHLMAN, the desk clerk, gave me the key to my room. I retired for a good night's sleep. Our spaceship, the Martian Monster, designed by DON COBLE and piloted by DUANE ECKERT, blasted off for Mars promptly at 6:00 A. M. At the first opportunity I asked the stewardess, DEANNE ECKENRODE, if I could check the passenger list. SANDRA PARKER, interpreter, JOAN HELLER, mineral expert, and DICK HARTZEL, a real estate agent, also were making the trip. By means of a vistaphone, GAIL SHERMAN, at Earth's station on the Moon, reported that cosmic clouds were near by. We asked her to radio ahead to Mars and contact CECIL SHOWERS, the Martian weatherman, to get further information. Not feeling well after I had eaten a GRATTON candy bar and a TAYLOR cracker, I took some medicine prescribed by Dr. PAT WEAVER and made by the CLINE and CUTSHALL Pharmaceutical Co. June 8, 1978 Mars City was a small town of four million! JANE CAREY, public relations manager for the city, met me at the NAYLOR Space Port and suggested that I register at the HOKE Motel which, incidentally, had been built by the DORSEY Construction Co. A swift ride in a Jetmobile brought us to our destination. Enter- ing the room I turned on a SHETTER lamp which revealed, lying on the table, a book entitled Is Mars Out of This World? , written by JOHN SLONAKER, and containing many WITTy sayings. BILLY, a NEW MAN in his field, illustrated the fascinating story changes in Martian life since PAT HECKENLUBER and DAR- LENE REXROTH had been the first to land on Mars. June 9, 1978 I started the day right! My CLOUSE alarm clock awakened me promptly. Page forty-four Local mineral expert, JEANNETTE KUNTZ, and I flew to the SOUTHERLY and POLAND region of Mars, where there were some of the largest aoundium mines in the Universe. REBECCA ROTH, the secretary for these mines, which were owned jointly by CAROLYN BAKER and ROBERT TRIMMER and under the supervision of JUDY BOSSERMAN, showed me around the grounds. We were informed that the ore was very rich, but ANNA MAE ODGEN, the head miner, had been reporting worthless platinum veins again. We may be forced to call in Dr. SILLIK to help locate another source of aoundium, replied Robert. Return- ing to the motel I met IRIS MCDANNELL who was planning to leave for Venus in the morning. Since my mission was completed on Mars, and I wanted to visit Venus if I had the chance, we made plans to leave together. We rented a Jetmobile from the HESS and MCCAUSLIN Fly-It-Yourself Jetmobile Station. I returned to my motel, wrote my report with my SHEAFFER pen, and soon retired to bed. June io, 1978 Iris and I planned to stop at the Spudnick 400 and exchange our Jetmobile for a flying saucer, as it is impossible to Hy a Jetmobile on Venus due to the atmos- pheric pressure. I had brought my portable CAREY radio, which I tuned to WBAO to hear the Top 40 Show with disc jockey BLAINE HARVEY. The Mars City Chorus, led by MIKE BUCHER and composed largely of B-ville graduates, came in loud and clear. I could hear distinctly the soloist who was BERNICE THRUSH. Incidentally, the pianist was RUTHANNA MUSSELMAN. The radio station was one of the many owned by theiDICK BEATTY Network and operated by JEFF BUCHER. Midway between Mars and Venus is an unusual advertisement by JOAN HARTMAN. It is in fourth dimension, you can smell the product. The sign read- REX-O-Cola, the drink lit for a king! This is the famous grape beverage by the VINES and WINAND Carbonating Co. At Spudnick 400 we were met by PAT RANKIN and DOLORES ORNER whom neither of us had seen for a long time. Station attendant DON BALTZLEY made the necessary changes and our flight was scheduled by DICK BYERS. June 11, 1978 On Venus, which is still young as a planetary nation, things were not so dif- ferent from Mars in many respects. From the G. THOMAS Space Port I could see a large part of Venus City. Here there were many businesses similar to those back on Earth. There were the OWEN COOLEY Refrigerator and Cooler Plant, the SHIRLEY FINFROCK Dress Shop and the VIVIAN GEISELMAN Beauty Salon. EDWARD DEARDORFF was operating a Guided Missile Guide-It-Yourself Service Station. Yes, Mars and Venus are nice to visit but I prefer the Earth, where there are a LOTT of flowers. I really enjoyed seeing all my old friends again. Most of them are starting to gray, but they're the same old '58 gang from B. H. S.! Page forty-five Senior Humor A tourist was introduced at Albuquer- que to an Indian with a reputedly perfect memory. Skeptically, the tourist asked: What did you have for breakfast on Oc- tober 4, 1913? The Indian answered, Eggs. The man scoffed. Everyone eats eggs for breakfast. He's a fraud. Eight years later the traveler's train stopped again at Albuquerque, and he saw the same Indian lounging on the platform. The tourist went up to him and said jovially, Howl The Indian answered, Scrambled Sivlfvkik A small boy was listening attentively to his brand new radio when his mother called him to dinner. But the boy was too enthralled to hear her call. Finally she got through and the boy came to dinner. His father than instructed him to say his prayer. This he did as follows: Dear God, we thank Thee for our blessings and all Thy kindnesses. Amen and 21223212914 After washing the kitchen floor, she told her two-year-old daughter not to walk on it because it was wet. S8288 On vacation from school, I had been making the round one day vainly looking for a summer job. Finally I decided to tackle just one more establishment and really sell myself. I proceeded to enact the part of a live wire - oozed confidence and vitality, talked fast and assuredly, then searched my mind for a final punch line. In short, I concluded, do you have an opening for an enterprising young man? Yes, young man, I do,,' said the mana- ger wearily, and close it gently as you go out! :ze as as as Mama Skunk was worried because she could never keep track of her two chil- dren. They were named, In and Out, and whenever In was in, Out was out, and if Out was in, In was out. One day she called Out in to her and told him to go out and bring In in. So Out went out and in no time at all he brought In in. Wonderful! said Mama Skunk. How, in all that great forest, could you find him in so short a time? It was easy, said Out. In stinct. We were a tmid but persistent group of boys and girls making our way toward the most important year - the Senior year. Our membership totals nearly 100 students who participate in the various activities offered by the school - band, choir, sports, dramatics, Student Council, cheerleading and the various clubs. Mr. Myers, our class advisor, guides us in our projects. These include roller skating parties, selling hot dogs, and soft pretzels at sports events, school pennants, hats, and candy. In this our junior year we received our class rings. Our big event this year was our presentation of the junior-Senior Prom. With these memories behind us and with great hopes, we look forward to our Senior year. OFFICERS President ...... ........... .... We had approximately 122 students in our class at this time. We were eager as seventh graders to get a good start in school life, and with the help of Mr. Drachbar, our class advisor, we adjusted ourselves to the different activities. The past presidents we selected were: seventh grade, Peter Asquithg eighth grade, Hershey Bowersg ninth grade, Vance Johnston. During our ninth grade year we visited the county court house and also the state capitol at Harrisburg. Now, as a class of Sophomores, we are participating in many school activities such as: football, baseball, basketball, band and chorus. Our one big project this year is selling candy. We are looking forward to our next two years, in which we hope to achieve our goal in B. H. S. History. The purpose at that time was to give experience only. They began with a limited amount of equipment, consisting of three saxophones, two trumpets, one trombone, piano and drums. This quantity was enlarged and in the present band there are five saxophones, three trombones, four trumpets, three rhythm instruments, and vocal- ists at times. They gradually began playing for dances within the school and now they provide entertainment for the Alumni Dance, May Day festivities, dances after games, and various places outside the community.
