Sports, rightly understood, is an occupation of the whole man and, while perfecting the body, it also makes the mind a more refined instrument for the search and communication of birth. Photographer ENSMINGER STUDIOS Page two Foreword In this 1955 publication of THE MIRROR we have attempted to portray most of the activities in which the school has participated during the 1954-55 term. This is our story as we lived it, learned it, and loved it. The pages that follow are full of the smiles, sorrows, fun, and disappointments that we have experienced at Biglerville High School. When we become older we hope that its pages will help us to recall the school that we love so well. The Seniors . Page three Dedication We, the Class of 1955, dedicate this yearbook to all FATHERS who, we feel, justly deserve much credit for the opportunities and happiness that they provide in our lives. Eckenrode Page thirty-four Senior Class Histor CHAPTER I 1951-52 We now look back with much happiness to the day, four years ago, when we entered Biglerville High School as excited, energetic freshmen. We were somewhat awed by the ease and assurance with which the upperclassmen went through the school routine. However, we soon adapted ourselves to the conditions at hand. Our 86 members took active part in many extra-curricular activities. We elected Richard Romig as class president, and Cecil R. Snyder became our class advisor. Highlights of the year were: a trip to the Adams -County Courthouse, and a visit to the state capitol of Harrisburg, where we toured the government buildings. CHAPTER II 1952-55 As we reached the second step to our ultimate goal, Frank Cline became our capable president. We now chose the curriculum we thought would be most bene- iicial to us. Our chief money-making project was selling candy at football games and at lunchtime. Finally, we ordered our class rings and waited patiently for the fall of '53. CHAPTER III 1955-54 We had now earned the title of jolly juniors. Due to the resignation of Mr. Snyder, Ralph Eckenrode became our class advisor, and Nevin Frantz was chosen as president. Within a few weeks after the opening of school we received our class rings, and we immediately proudly displayed them to all. By selling hot-dogs, soft- drinks, and doughnuts, we added a nice sum to our class treasury. As a fitting end for such a year, one spring night we transformed the gymnasium into an Oriental Garden as we entertained the seniors at the junior-Senior Prom. CHAPTER IV 1954-55 At last we reached the top-Seniors. Melinda Hauser was elected class presi- dent. How important we felt as we went about the tasks associated with this year! As the end approached, we were caught in a whirl which included our prom, senior trip, baccalaureate, and, of course, the big night when we received our diplomas. Soon we will begin a new chapter of our lives. But before we close the pages on our high school career, we'd like to reliect for a moment on all the splendid times we've had at B. H. S. We wish to extend our appreciation to those who have made these years so enjoyable, and to the classes which follow, we wish as much wealth in wisdom and friendship as we have gained from our Alma Mater. Jogunf ssc' Junior Class Histor We, the class of '56, entered Biglerville junior High School in September of 1950. We were eager, as seventh graders, to get a good start in high school life. We have approximately 75 students in our class, who participate in the various activities such as football, basketball, band, track, choir, F. F. A., F. H. A., and B-Club. Miss Mildred Walter guides usfin our projects which include selling hot dogs, soft drinks, and pretzels at games, sponsoring dances, and roller skating parties. We received our class rings on September 20th and won first prize in the Booster Parade. Our big event this year was our presentation of the Junior-Senior Prom. The past presidents of our class have been as follows: Sandra Lower, seventh grade, Judy Shetter, eighth grade, Keith Wolii, ninth grade, Sandra Lower, tenth grade. With great hopes, we, the class of '56, are looking forward to our Senior year. N 74 Sophomore Class Histor In the fall of '51 a group of 110 boys and girls converged from three grade schools to enter as the seventh grade of Biglerville Junior High School. We were a timid group of young students that first year, but with the help of Mr. L. W. Gulden, our class advisor, we managed to take the traditional hecklings given to seventh graders. We took part in all the activities open to first year junior High students and had a wonderful time doing it. After weathering our first year, we progressed to the eighth and then the ninth grades, with Freda Warner and Richard Fink being our respective class presidents. During our Freshman year we journeyed to the county court house to see an actual trial and to the state capitol at Harrisburg. Now we are Sophomores with joan Tate as president. We are selling candy at noontime and during athletic events to raise money for the junior-Senior Prom and our senior trip.
