Although we were still not admitted into senior high sports and activities, we tried desperately to be recognized by the upper classmen in the small duties we performed for our school. This was the year we took an educa- tional and fat the same timej enjoyable trip to Harrisburg to visit our state capitol. Robert Baker was elected president of our class for our freshman year and Mr. Shetter served as our class advisor. We faced our sophomore year with great anxiety. Many of our classmates were out fighting away to show their skill in sports and many other activities as well. Now we also began to take action to provide for the money we would need our senior year. Candy for sale, was our cry. Mr. Drachbar became our class advisor this year and Robert Baker was re-elected class president. jolly juniors they called us in the fall of 1951. Joan Wright was our presi- dent who guided us through this year of many decisions. The sale of hot dogs, peanuts, and soft drinks was our source of revenue. This was the year we really worked to put money in the treasury. September 20, 1951, our hearts were filled with great excitement as we proudly showed off our long awaited class rings. With seniors continually reminding us to give them an elaborate prom, we started to make plans to grant them their wish. Harbor Lights was the selected theme, and around it we did everything possible to make the night a pleasant memory. Now we have reached the stage of l'sophisticated seniors. The last step has been taken in our high school education before graduating. Robert Baker has now served his third term as our class president. Through our roller skating party and the sale of coffee, doughnuts, and pretzels we made preparation for our trip to Washington. Gradually we are approaching the end of a high school career and we hope the beginning of a bright future. What road will we seniors take now? Many have definite plans for the future, while others are completely undkecided. As to our past history, however, we will have cherished memories of the many days we spent within the walls of Biglerville High school which will dwell with us throughout our lifetime. Junior Class Histor We, the class of 1954, entered Biglerville High School in September 1948 as a large but timid group of boys and girls. We had 110 members in our class, when we entered seventh grade, but since that time our membership has been reduced to 95. We elected Donald Wright for our class president and Mr. Ernst was our class advisor. Represented in our 'group were homes over a large area of Adams County. We enjoyed school very much and many of our members participated in many activities. During our eighth year we were under the leadership of Keith Starner. Our membership increased to 118. Many of our members took part in more activities such as Band, Football, Pep Club, Hi-Y and junior Home Economics Club. In our freshman year we had Harold Tuckey for our leader. We had some interesting experiences while visiting the County Court House and the State Capitol at Harrisburg. We spent very interesting days at these buildings. It was during this year that for the first time, the Ninth Grade organized a chorus and participated in several programs. Our membership slipped to 113 but many still took active part in activities - Band, Football, Basketball, junior Home Economics Club, Pep Club, and Hi-Y. As sophomores we each chose the curriculum that we thought would benefit us most. Under the leadership of Robert Stoner we sold candy at the football games and chose our class colors and flower. Now that we are juniors we have Louise Nary for our class president. Our project this year was selling hot dogs at the football games. In September we re- ceived our class rings and proudly showed them to everyone. We are looking forward to our senior year 1954. CLASS OFFICERS President ........ ....... Sophomore Class Histor We, the Class of '55, entered Biglerville junior High School in September of 1949, eager with high hopes and ambitions. Now we are fulfilling these hopes, to a large extent, as we are at long last in Senior High School. We are participating in many school activities among which are Band, Chorus, A Cappella Choir, Senior High Play, both Varisty and Junior Varsity Football, and our boys nearly compose the junior Varisty Basketball Squad. We are attempting to make our treasury grow by selling candy at all athletic events and in the cafeteria at noon. We are divided among the various curricula according to the choice of each individual member. Our enrollment includes 80 members - 54 boys and 46 girls. This year our class is led by Frank Cline as president. Mr. Cecil R. Snyder had been our advisor, but this year Mr. Ralph L. Eckenrode has taken over the advisory task. John Day, Paul Little and Darlene Fetters are vice-president, secretary, and treasurer respectively. Our class previously has had as president, Melinda Hauser in Grade 7, Mac Albright in Grade 8, and Richard Romig in Grade 9. The Sophomore Class occupies room 102, under Miss Doris E. Stierlyg room 303 with Mrs. Mary M. Clouserg and room 205, supervised by Mr. Robert G. Reiter. During our ninth grade year we visited the County Courthouse and spent a day at the State Capitol. This year two of our homerooms won cash prizes in the Annual Christmas Parade. Page 43 Page 44 Freshman Class History The class of '56 united again in the fall of 1952 as freshman to begin their third year in Biglerville High School. Our advisor is Miss Mildred A. Walter. This year we chose the following officers: Keith Wolff, President, Robert Howe, Vice-President, Larre Hoke, Secretary, and David Ogburn, Treasurer. We are divided into three courses which are academic, vocational, and industrial. Our members are active in sports, band, honor, society, activities, and plays. Our class is divided into three sections, with 9-1 and half of 9-3 in room 13 under Mr. Clyde Cover, and 9-4 and the rest of 9-3 in room 101 under Mr. William Coradetti. Eighth Grade Class History At the beginning of the 1951-52 school year the seventh graders entered Biglerville High School where we were divided into three sections. We had an enrollment of 110 and elected Nancy Arnold, President: Joyce Ebbert, Vice-Presi- dent, Nelson Weber, Secretary, and Joyce Starry, Treasurer. When we returned to the 1952-53 school term we were again divided into three sections with 8-1 in Room 7 under Miss Mildred A. Walter, 8-2 in Room 8 under Mr. Richard N. Allison and 8-3 in Room 11 under Mr. Cecil R. Snyder until January and now under Mrs. Mary A. Diehl. We elected Freda Warner, President, Bonnie Wolf, Vice-President, Winnie Hinkle, Secretary, and Thomas Leedy, Treasurer. Mr. Lawrence W. Gulden is our class advisor. Seventh Grade Class History The class of 1958 eagerly entered Biglerville High School at the beginning of the 1952-53 school term with 111 in the class. The seventh grade is divided into three sections. Section 1 in Room 1 under Mr. Lawrence Gulden, Section 2 in Room 2 under Mr. Albert Drachbar, and Sec- tion 3 in Room 6 under Mr. Hobart Benchoff. A few weeks after school started we elected officers. They are: President, Thomas Clineg Vice-President, Blaine Harvey, Secretary, Donald Cobleg and Treas- urer, Cecil Showers. Our class advisor is Mr. Soloski. The seventh grade boys and girls are proud that they have taken part in many sports and activities, and are proud of the 85.00 they won in the Booster Parade. Page 78 Humor The sofa holds an ardent pair, A handsome boy and lady fair, No light their loving to declare, John and Mary. Steps suddenly upon the stair Bring action fast, and unaware, Her father finds them sitting there, John . . . and . . . Mary! Love is the passion That made freshman Pete A man of fashion With hair and nails neat. After hearing the grownups discuss a recent wedding a 4-year-old girl re- marked gravely: When I get big, I'm going to marry Michael. Asked why she had decided to marry the boy next door, she replied: I have to. I'm not allowed to cross the street where all the other boys live. Horrible thought for today: If and when we get women drivers on heli- copters they not only will not know whether they want to go right or left, backward or forwards, but up or down! MOTHER KNOWS BEST A small boy riding on a bus had been sniiiling loudly for several miles, much to the annoyance of a smartly clad woman in the next seat. After several disapproving glances, she turned to the youth and said: Young man, do you have a hand- kerchief? Yes, Ma'am, the lad replied, but mother insists that I not lend it to strangers. Mr. Allison was lecturing his physics class. Said he, If molecules can be split into atoms and the atoms split into electrons, can the electrons be broken down and further? I'm not certain, replied Betty Freed, but a sure way to find out would be to mail some of 'em in a package marked 'fragile'. DISENCHANTED He walked her to the front door, She whispered with a sigh, I'll be home tomorrow night. He answered, So will I. English class was in session. Can any of you tell me, asked Mrs. Clouser, why we call English our mother tongue? That's easy, snapped Paul from his seat in the second row. It's be- cause father doesn't get much chance to use it! Dear little one, your party's o'er, And what chaos there's been, It added one year to your age- To mine, it added ten! Junior, realizing at the ripe old age of seven that his school was over- crowded, went to the principal and offered to step out to make room for someone else. INTROSPECT ION There's more of truth in this, than rhythm, The years slip by - and we slip with 'em. Ken: Will I be able to read when I get my new glasses? Shirley: You will. Ken: Ain't science wonderful? I never could read before. SPECIFIC A minister in New York phoned a minister in California. Is this a sta- Pcxge 80 tion-to-station call? asked the opera- tor. No, replied the clergyman, It's parson-to-parson. TOO LITERALLY The farmwife called the family doctor to give him a report on the condition of her husband. Has Henry been taking his medicine religiously? No, I'm sorry to sayf' answered the wife. He's taking it but he swears every time I give him a dose. WISE OLD BIRD A man finally bought a parrot at an auction after some spirited bidding. UI suppose the bird talks, he said to the auctioneer. Ta1ks! came the reply. He's been bidding against you for the last half hour! HE ASKED FOR IT Willy: Don't you think I'm rather good-looking? Lilly: In a way. Willy: What kind of way? Lilly: Away off. WRONG STORY Mother: Tommy sit down and tell your sister a story. Tommy: I can't sit down. I just told Daddy a story. CLOSED SEASON Sign on a Michigan farm: Attention Hunters. Please don't shoot anything that isn't moving. It may be my hired man. ONE NEVER KNOWS Five-year-old Nancy was having din- ner at the home of her playmate. When she saw the family bow their heads for grace, she turned to her little hostess and asked: What are you do- ing? We're giving thanks for our daily bread, the little playmate explained. Don't you give thanks at home? Naw, replied Nancy. We pay for our bread! THAT'S WHAT IT SAID Teacher: What are the people of New York noted for? Louise: The people of New York are noted for their -stupidity. Teacher: Wherever did you get that information? Louise: From my civics book, Miss Walter. It says the population of New York is very dense. NONSCHEDULED FLIGHT Farmer: Say, you've sure got a lot of nerve to come down in a parachute with this one hundred mile an hour gale blowing. Camper: I didn't come down in a parachute. I went up in a tent. PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT The doctor was very pleased with his patient's progress. You're coughing more easily this morning, he said cheerfully. Well, for gosh sakes, I ought to be, replied the patient. I've been practicing all night. TIMELESS Little Willy, feeling smart, Tore his Daddy's watch apart. He should be punished for his crime. But Daddy doesn't have the time. BUFFALO EXPRESS Elderly Lady: A ticket to New York, please. Ticket Agent: Do you wish to go by Buffalo, Madam? Elderly Lady: Certainly not! By train, if you please. MISSION UNACCOMPLISHED Old Lady fpulling boy out of creekj: How did you come to fall in? Boy Qindignantlyj: I didn't come to fall in - I came to.fish! Page 81 C ass Future May 29, 1965 Dear Nadine, I received your letter sometime ago Uuly 8, 19531 so I finally got around to answering it. Now I'm going to write you a nice long letter fit better be nice and long, the editors said it had to cover this entire pagej. Pondering quite awhile on what to write to you, I chose to tell you all about the incidents that took place today. This is the way my day went . . . CLYDE ORNER, the milkman, woke me along with the rest of the neighbor- hood about four o'clock this morning. Maybe not that early but it sure did seem like it. I stirred sleepily and jumped out of my bed and into the housecoat fdesign- ed by MARTHA FISSELQ lying on the KANE chair. After breakfast Qwhich was composed of toast and HELLER'S cereal, I went downtown to HACKENBERG'S 8: FRAZIER'S grocery store to do my marketing and then I went across the street to the ARENTZ department store. Guess whom I met there. It was Mrs. KENNETH TRIMMER and Mrs. RODNEY DUNLAP. I haven't seen them for an awfully long time. Coming home from my shopping trip I saw Rev. JACOBS, who is the minis- ter in this town. He told me that the PHILIP STONER Construction Company had bought an old home and are going to build a drug store. There are also rumors that they are going to sell MARVEL TAYLOR'S ice cream direct from the VAUGHN DUNLAP Dairies. When I returned to my home, fwhich is on BEAM streetj, I saw that PAUL SPERTZEL, the mailman, had delivered the mail. I received a letter from the D. HENDERSON, L. CLINE Insurance Agency and also an advertisement from the PAULINE STONER Toy Company. They informed me that the PAULINE SLAY- BAUGH - JOYCE SANDERS Toys are now on sale fnot that I'm interestedj. The D. KLINE Clock rang out the hour of lunch and I remembered that I was getting hungry. Deciding to eat lunch at the SHIRLEY FUNT Lunch Shop, I rushed to the phone and dialed the JACOBY Taxi Service. They have three new drivers now and I was wondering whether DONALD SNYDER, BOBBY PYLES, or KENNETH MICKLEY would come for me when the doorbell rang. When I answered the door, who should respond to the answer but EUGENE PYLES and DOUGLAS TAYLOR, delivery men for McCURLEY'S Furniture Store. They were delivering my new electric stove. Well, finally the taxi came and neither of those three drivers were driving. Instead KENNETH SNYDER, another driver, had the wheel. He drove me to the SHIRLEY FUNT Lunch Shop and I had a luscious meal. The weather was perfect today, so I decided to walk home. I stopped in at ARNSBERGER'S Meat Market for some of WHITE'S Home Cured Ham for supper and then continued home. Right now, I am watching the BURDEL REXROTH Show fstarring JANET KIME and CAROLENE TAYLORJ on television. As soon as it is over I will fold this letter, stick it in an envelope, and then delicately lick the envelope, slap a stamp on it and send it on its way to you. Your classmate, Doris Page 82 June 21, 1963 Dear Doris,, About five hours ago I was about to start this letter, but I was interrupted by a telephone call. It was PAUL SLAYBAUGH saying he was in town and insisted that I go to FERN HARTZEL'S Tea Room with him. So you must understand, since I haven't seen him for about five years, I had to go. Now I have so much to tell you I'm afraid I have to use two of L. WRIGHT'S envelopes to send it in. Of course JERRY FUNT, the postman, will understand, for he knows how it is to see old classmates and learn the latest. Well, here it is! PAUL told me that MAX McKINNEY is the proud father of triplets, all boys! I suppose BETTY FREED fMcKINNEYJ, Qshe did marry him, didn't she?J, will be kept rather busy washing diapers. Of course P. SHEAT'S Diaper Service is doing them all free for a year. Also ROBERT HELTIBRIDLE'S Cut Rate Store is sending them three dozen COOLEY Company bottles and several MILLERIS Blankets. They will need plenty of STARNER-BALDWIN toys to keep them busy, don't you think? I finally found out Why JANE LONGENECKER and JUDY COULSON haven't been heard of lately. Guess where they are? In Florida, no less, and they are staying there until next May. They're working at H. KLUCK'S Railroad Terminal and are staying at the swank FLICKINGER'S Hotel. JANET CLUCK said she might join them later but right now she is too busy crusing around in that new jet job, designed by ROBERT CORBETT. I hope he made it right! After tea we went to the ARNOI.D'S Theater. KENNETH GARDNER'S new show was playing, starring GENE MOTTER and SARAH RICE. Remember how they used to be in the plays at B-ville? All the costumes were designed by BARBARA ROTHg boy, what gowns they were! I only hope BARBARA MADI- SON didn't catch a cold with the one she wore taking that moonlight ride with CLYDE COULSON. They had two of the supporting roles and sang throughout most of the show. We came home on the STARRY Bus Lines and ran into SHIRLEY EMLET and KATHLEEN BYERLY, so of course we had to chat awhile. There I found out that ELSON GRIM was on vacation in Mexico, last January, and liked it so well that he is staying on at VIRGINIA WALDE'S big resort. He is going to take up the art of bull fighting. Of course CURTIS CLINE will send him all the bulls from his ranch in Texas to practice on. Hope the bulls don't take too much of a liking to him, if you know what I mean. When we finally arrived home, my roast, bought at ROBERT BAKER'S Meat Market this morning, was burned to a crisp. I blame the gas stove that I bought last week from TERRY LOWER. Oh, well I can always open a can of TUCKEY'S beans or SULLIVAN'S soup. I hope I'm not too undernourished by the time I see you. By the way, make it soon if you can. A classmate, Nadine Page 83 ..
