MIRROR 4 ' 8. .1 K '- . -Q67-'v' School H istory ln the early part ol' the nineteenth century a little log sehool house was erected upon the site ol' the present structure ol' Biglerville High Schoole out of this abyss, step by step, arose our present building. But as time welll on the numbel' ot' ad- venturers on the sea ol' knowledge increased so that it was necessary for a second building' the Community Hall to be erected to accommodate knowledge seekers. The system is organized on a six-six basis. The grade building houses the lirst six grades and contains a combination auditorium-gymnasium. The auditorium has a seating capacity ot' approximately tour hundred and lifty. This winter a maroon velour Iire-prool' curtain was added to the stage. This building is also equipped with shower baths and dressing rooms l'or health classes and athletics. The library is located in the high school building and is also used as an otliee. The library contains six dillerent sets ot' encyclopedias and approximately one thousand books on tiction. nonliction, travel. essays, poetry, etc. All books are classilied and catalogued. The lioard ol' Education appropriates annually about one hundred dollars for new library books. Twenty-one of the leading magazines are purchased each year for the library. In the winter ol' 1928 the School Board pul'ehased six acres ot' land adjoining the high school building for athletic purposes. In the spring of 1929 the School lioard also purchased two acres adjoining the grade building for a playground for the grades. Last autumn our high school lmilding was greatly beautilied by the planting ol' shrubbery. At present the high school ol'l'ers three courses academic, general and com- mercial. The school day is divided into six one-hour periodsfthe lattel' pal't ot' cach period is used for supervised study. Each class has one activity period a week. An assembly period is held every Thu1'sday morning, between eleven and twelve, in the audito1'ium when a program is presented by some school organization. As to organizations the school maintains an Orchestra, Glee Club, Dramatic lglub, Science Club, and two literary soeietiesfliiley and XVhittier. The linances and school activities are managed by the Student Council which is composed ol' four Seniors, three Juniors, two Sophomores, one Freshman, and one from both the Seventh and Eighth gradesfa member ol' the faculty is also included in this group. The achievelnents of liiglerville High School have been g1'eat in the past, and it is our most sincere wish that our Alma Mater will ever continue to advance in the years which lie before her. lt. li. ll. i'f.
