Kleinfelter QB111' Svrhnnl fluatnrg Educatlonally Blglervllle dates back almost as far as Revolutlonary days At the dawnlng of the nlneteenth century a htrle log school house bullded upon the Slte of the present structure housed the boys and glrls of that tlme A huge log flre place whlch occupled one end of the bulldlng and a long narrow bench extendlng the length of the room turnlshed the accommoda tlons for learning The bulldlng was called the Mxddletown School bemg the m1d point of the towns of Table Rock Arendtsvllle Bendersvllle and Heldlersburg In 1859 just before the great C1v1l War a new bu1ld1ng was erected 1n place of the old log structure whlch had braved the storms w1th1n and w1th out of more than a half century Thls bulldlng was partly of bnck construc t1on and was consxdered modern From 1tS open doors our grand parents could have vlewed the passmg of the Confederate troops on the1r way to engage ln the great battle of Gettysburg For three days they could hear the roar and thunder of the guns seven mxles away St rrmg were those days ln the hlstory of our school What an mmportant part our 1nst1tut1on played 1n moldmg character whlch later gulded the destlnles of the town state and natlonl Full forty years the Mlddletown School catered to the educat1onal wants of the surroundlng country Wlth the laylng of the raxls of the Gettysburg name was changed from Mlddletown to Blglervxlle 1n honor of the man who was then governor of the state of Pennsylvanla In 1895 came the deslre and the demand for a larger and better school A two roomed structure was erected and was thought to be ample to care for many generatlons to come Scarce ten years had passed when further need was felt for Increased school fac1l1t1es Wlth the lncorporatlon ln 1903 of the borough the school d1str1ct obtalned xts present day lmlts Add1t10Da1 school rooms were ob tamed by rentlng avallable quarters ln the Thomas Bros Bu1ld1ng In 1914 the f1rst hlgh school course was lnstltuted Thls was a two year course the first class bemg graduated 1n 1915 The course was then changed to a three year course and later to a four year course The school IS now a fully ac credlted flrst class hlgh school Grand and glorlous as the past has been the achlevements of the hlgh school ln the last two years have over shadowed all that has gone before Wlth the guldance of a capable and progresswe Board of Educatlon the leadershlp of an efflclent and consclentlous faculty and the co operatlon of a loyal student body the standard has ever been set hlgher and Blglervllle holds the envlable reputatlon of bemg the most progresslve and best sp1r1ted school ln Adams County Our hlgh scholastlc standard our athletxc act1v1t1es our phenomenal growth are all 1nd1cat1ons of the splrlt that pervades dear old B1glerv1lle I-hgh School J D Page Fu e branch of the Philadelphia, and Reading railroad, the town grew and the Page Six O XQWQQ QQ fig? H ' 11 H YI M l M Svnphnmurv 0112155 Quatnrg Nmeteen twenty four assembled as a class 1n the fall of 1920 when three and twenty eager and youthful neophytes trooped 1nto the Assembly Hall ready for the long grlnd towards graduatlon and a dlploma Wlth pep whlch has been characterlst c of the class we started th1ngs wlth a rush and the first b1g event was a corn bake and marshmallow toast at Helges Woods It was a party of lntroductlon We lntroduced the rest of the Hlgh School to our hxgh and mlghty class Two other soclal events of prlme rmportance were partles tendered to the class by Mlss Jemlma Gllhland and Mlss Marg aret Lady Needless to say both affalrs were roarlng successes Foremost ln every actlvlty during the Freshman year we won laurels for our school and for our class Our scholastlc standlng was of the hlghest and the record of nlneteen twenty four w1ll hold flrst place for many years Our boys starred on the base ball team our girls stood flrst ln chorus work and declamatlons Full and worthy as had been the hlstory of the class to the begmnmg of thls year recent events has proved that 1924 IS the leader of the leaders We are keepmg our hlgh scholastlc standlng We have been represented on the debatlng team on the basket ball team and once agam on the base ball team We brought the Farmers Day banner for stock yudgxng to Blglervllle We have but lt IS no use to enumerate all of our achievements They speak for themselves We consxder 1924 the most fortunate class an Hlgh School for we pos sess a House even tho It be Spencer We have a Mxller for our use but MISS Mac says Claude can Wflte a better composltlon than make a cup of flour Our carpets are made by a Weaver 1f George gets to school on tlme whlle we have RICC for dmner when Hllda IS about We are all ladxes but The Lady IS Margaret AS1dB from being a Blg ham our Esther makes a flne class treasurer Altho our Wagner IS not as well known as the com poser Grace has plenty of muslclans handy for 1n a F1dler we flnd our good fnend Kate And Margaret B may be a Baum gardner nevertheless she doesnt let grass grow under her feet especially when a member of the mascullne gender IS ln the v1c1n1ty Wlth a t added to h1s name It wont take much tlme nor trouble to change Bucher to Butcher and we expect Chff to follow that vocatlon sooner or later Ruthle Llnah has no faults altho as a farmerette she IS a dandy Red Slaybells we mean Slaybaugh IS the llght of our way whlle Ray IS an Oyler on the P 8a R rallroad or has ambltlons that way Day dreammg Eva and llttle French Julla do more than slmply f1ll a place on our class roll whlle Kathleen has a temper all her own Good natured Marjorle and slow movmg Bruce form a f1ne comblna t1on to hold down the back seat of the Dodge Qulgle and Peters and G1ll1 land brlng up the tall end of the processlon and wlth that crowd as pxctured above you wlll flnd the sum and total of nineteen twenty four S Page Szxteen 9 . ' Glenn McCauslin Jllrwhman Qllaum Quainrg And lo It d1dSt come to pass upon the Hfth day of the month of Septem ber ln the year n1neteen hundred and twenty one and 1n the second year of the relgn of Conrad the Irrltable One that a great horde descended upon the sacred preclncts of Blglervllle And th1s mass was great In fact It was so great that lt dldst out number the rest of the school And they called this motley crowd The Freshmen Gathered from the hlghways and byways thirty and nlne neophytes d1d gather at the fount of knowledge to lmblbe the nectar dlspensed by her royal hlghness Mac the E clent and her co worker Dearle the Dellghtful Yea the others 1n the1r self concelt called us green And lt came to pass that the relgrung one w1th h1s counclllors came together and took councll wlth one another saylng It must be done so that the sapllngs shall know thelr place and that we shall know them And upon the harvest leaves was It wrltten that we should come together for a great feastlng, w1th dance and song And behold It was not Wlth song and dance and feastmg but wlth the mlqultxous paddle and Wlfed chalr that we d1d make our debut into the all dldst do much to assuage our lnjured feellngs and to allay the ever present and odorlferous Llmburger and render the raw oyster agaln what lt was lntended to be the maklngs of soup And now havlng become as one of them the Freshmen dldst begln to do thrngs Upon the flfth day of November was a carmval held And lt fell to the lot of 1925 to satisfy the sweet tooth of an unruly mob And th1s the Freshmen d1d well And behold the carmval waxed successful and the Freshmen dldst do thclr share And ln th1s country was an organlzatlon And th1s organlzatlon was called the Jumor Red Cross The Mlghty One dldst appeal to the assembled for support of th1s organlzatlon And the Freshmen supported lt Yea they d1d contrlbute more than all the rest of the school comblned L1kew1se d1dst the Class of 1925 answer the Seal Stamp Sale at the joy ous Chrxstmastlde And when the call for debaters d1d come lo and behold two members dldst volunteer and one member was chosen And he d1d w1n great laurels for hls school 1h sclass and hlmself In the strenuous game of basketball were we repreented and on the baseball team d1d we play And last but not least we waxed strong and proflclent ln our scholastlc endeavors And by the gentle are of persuas on and apphcatlon we became the leaders of Blglervllle Hlgh School for the scholastlc year of nlneteen hundred and twenty one and twenty two And none dare dxspute our clalm for we do admlt the veraclty and rectrtude of such clalm Thus endeth the chronlcles of the Freshmen F H P Q 3 .
