As a unit, your class will cease to exist this year. As individuals, each of you will leave school life to go out into life's school. How will you fare? For many of you, your high school career will be the last time for formal accounting of your successes and failures. No longer will you have a periodic report issued by a school faculty on which you are judged to be passing or failing. You will become your own judge--you and the society in which you will live. I am confident that each of you will set your standards high and that you will achieve these standards. The world into which you are going is a better world in which to live because of the progress made by the generation before you. Your task will be to move progress along a few notches for the next generation--your children. You have learned, among other things, that the democra- cy in which you live not only carries with it certain rights and privileges, but also definite obligations. Don't shirk these obligations--take a lively interest in your local school activities. Ten years from now give yourself a self-check and see if you are fulfilling your obligations as a citizen in a de- mocracy. If you're not, get busy--if you are, keep it up. Geraldine Nelson leaves a cheerleading suit, a bottle of peroxide and one blue sock to Joyce Nichols. Elaine Harness leaves her artistic ability and long hair to Barbara Hedman. Jim Rose wills his ability to sec deer to anyone who can count that high. Esther Kitzmiller won’t will William, she’s keeping him. Conrad Peterson leaves, no, he's decided to stay. M-m-m-m those Frosh. Norma Hoyt wills 5 boxes of Knox Gelatin, a mop. a potato peeler, and a dish rag to Tess. Sharon Slethaug leaves her brother to Miss Peterson or Miss Barney. MONTANA 14 CLASS HISTORY In the early fall of 1952.33 small but lively Freshmen stumbled into the halls of BUS. The first thing they stumbled into was the sophomore, who in turn made them stumble into their most gone initiation costume, complete with lipstick. It was a hard thing to take, but these most extraordinary Frosh took it all with a smile and the upmost of dig nity. surviving fairly well the last of the harsh type of initiations to be seen around BUS. The poor green ones were rewarded by the sophomores the next week, when a party was given in honor of them. Of course the Freshmen gave the sophomores one in return, and so went the first year of high school for our class of '56', which was guided and advised then by Mr. Sivils. With the sophomore year came many new and different things to this mighty class, the first of which was a new advisor. Miss Brown. One of the gay times planned by the sophomores that year was a hay ride. It turned out all right even if the wagon broke and students came home in any fashion they could arrange. The sophomores also added to their fame and the gaiety of Christmas that year by presenting a Christmas assembly for the school. Afore mentioned Christmas was really a quite gay one. because Miss Brown chose that time to get married. After that the ad- visor was Mrs- Gorsuch. The junior year for our most honorable class, was advised by Mr. Flint, who showed the class to even more fame and fortune. As a first sign of power, the juniors of 54-55 had three officers in Student Council. Gordon Reese was Vice-President. Sharon Slethaug held the Secretary's post, and Gladys Fenby was the Treasurer. These same juniors did that wonder in the field of dramatics, entitled “No More Homework.” directed by Mr. Hoepfer. and claiming the attention of nearly everyone in the valley. Their Prom was the first in a long while to come out even or at least not behind. With the theme of Chinatown , and the gym a huge pagoda, the class did well for itself. Later in the spring, they honored the seniors with the annual banquet, served at Reeves Cafe in White fish. As seniors, this same class, although it was battered, much wiser, and fewer in num - ber (23) was still a mighty one. Under the advisorship of Mr. Flint, they hustled or scrambled this book together, and a free dance, celebrated Pat Anderson's birthday at Lake Blaine, and had made enough money through the years to go on a nice, noisy senior trip. As I walked through the door; . or when that casement parted, I almost hit the floor. Before my eyes 1 saw the group. Each one of them real cool; With whom, you see. I'd fly the coop. When I got out of school. As you know, we graduated. And laid our worn (?) books down; But while for this event we waited. We really went to town. Perhaps the most outstanding thing That we ever did do. Was get the ball a-rolling. And sell this book to you. Mr. Flint was our advisor. A real good guy. that man. But. when at me he'd holler. I'm telling you. I ran. For on his arm he carried a cane Made of wood that wasn't weak; And if you'd give him a little pain. He'd hit you on the beak We each had one big mission; So the deadline we could meet; We worked like atomic fission. And accomplished quite a feat. Now I'm not saying we worked real hard Each minute of the day. For our daily life could not be marred. By not taking time out to play. While paging through this annual book. I'm sure that you'll agree; That your pocketbook we didn't rook. When we charged that $2.50 fee. BAND About the Band In Bigfork High To define its duties 1 shall try. It sounded off Most every day. If the kids made it All the way To the old schoolhouse They liked to toot And blow their horns And even tried to Trim the corns That often appeared Upon their feet While walking on The two-block beat To the old schoolhouse. However, one of the things I can write about Is how the girls are so devout About learning how to cook and sew. And nab onto some big do-do. They learn just how to twist his arm. So he'll drag 'em off to his farm. To liven up his drab, dull life By being his good and loving wife. Their teacher can teach them to succeed Her name was changed from Musick to Weed So that she herself, while her race she ran Could say with truth, I got my man I I She's been here for nine years or more. And has turned out many a score Of real nice girls who are competent Along the lines of sentiment. For we all know she teaches them how To cook. sew. bake; maybe how to milk a cow. Is the Pep Club of Bigfork High. Then you'd stop your car with glee. And say. Come on. Let’s go and see Just what those kids are yelling 'bout. So---out you’d hop. to take time out. You see. this is just a time of practice Where they hoot, holler, and yell like cactus. For they are here to promote school spirit. I'm telling you. they really smear it. They stand behind our wonderful team. And along this line they’re on the beam. They sell the candy; Boy, they're dandy. Then mix some slop and sell it for pop. To this Miss Paul has said AHEM. So I should say nice things 'bout them. Now when I talk of slop I’m ribbing; To tell the truth. I'm really fibbing. For when they each gave three whole dollars, To buy some suits with brand-new collars. They earned themselves a reputation That can’t be ruined by conversation.
