Elauall A few years ago ttwelve to be exact another frrst grade class started rn Sun bury School lt was September 2 l9'38 and our frrst grade teacher was lvfrss Payne Only nmeteen of the orrgrnal f1r t grade class re'na1n to graduate They are as follows Mrltcn Barcus Betty Comp ton Helen Edwards Terrence Fa1rchrla Nancy Fletcher lackson Ted Forman Ned Forman Ioan Fravel Ann Lenhart Ken neth Longshore Ctlenard Goodyear Gor don Gallogly Charles Nerlson loanrt Perfect Edtth Shoaf Leland Shoemaker Carolyn Sue Turnbull and Leo Ulery Durrng the 'yea s from the second araae to the srxth our teachers were Mrss Bond second Mrss Brshop thrrd Mlss Hague fourth Mrss Beattre frfth and Mrs Hcr locker srxth ln the fourth grade we Jotned wrth otlser classes 1n presentrng a play W'e thought we were really rmport ant and grown up Andy Holhngshead and lrrn McK1bbe'1 Jolned our class '1 the srxth grade We had our frrst rnan teacher tn the seventh grade and we were a brt Juberous of Mr Crawford at frrst A new rnerrr class thrs year Mr Nerlson was our erghth grade teach Lee Longwell Beverly Todd and Charley and Orvrlle Rrchardson Jorned the class thrs year We were rated hrah scholastrcally .rsrcally and athlettcally Erght members of the hlgh school band were erghth graders We wtll never fc get the erahth grade commencement ard our play llfe Haunted Tea Room We were now ready to enter htgh school In 1946 a roarmg class of forty seven students began thelr hrgh school careers and Mrss Grrfflth was grven the honor of berng our home room teacher Thrs year Norma Clevenger Joxned the class ard we lost lohn Overturf and Robert Sparks We were represented rn varrous orgaruza trons of the school lohn Overturf and Ted Forman were le 'er rren rn football and were helped along by seven other rrerr bers of the class Basketball gave rn le of our boys a place on the reserve squad Bonnre Wrlcox was one of the Cheerlead ers Durrng thrs year we enroyed mary rnterestrng eve ts such as our 1n1t1at1on aplay entrtled The frdnrght Ghost and a Chrrstmas Party In our soplsorro e year Mrs Rrchey was our advrsor Thrs year we lost L1ll1an Penn and Dennrs Edwards At the be grnnrng of the year we treated the Fresh men to an 1n1t1at1on whrch they thought was rather harsh ln October we went on a hayrrde and 1n March we had a skattng party We were proud to have seven 'nembers 1n the band and several boys on the basketball and football teams Durrng our Iunror year a new member was added to our class Harold Hrmes However we lost Marrlyn Grnn Helen Baughman and hm Alexander who lomed the army Our home room teacher was agarn Mrs Brchey We d1d a lot f thrngs to rncrease our treasury thts year such as sponsorrng a Prgskrn Prom after a football game selllng pencrls prrnted wrth basketball schedule and programs at the games and held an Old Fashroned Barn dance rn March Carolyn Sue Turnbull was elected Homecomlng Oueen The name of the Iumor Play was Yes and No We held our Chrrstrnas party at the home of Nellre Von Edwards Other entertarn ment was a skatlng party rn February Of course the mam soctal event of the f Prom held on Aprrl 30 Thus ended an other year of work and fun We are l95O For the thrrd year we are under the capable gurdance of Mrs Brchey In Oc tober we sponsored a Dads Nrght Dance Ann Lenhart and Nancy Fletcher were chosen Homecomrng Oueens attendants at our game w1th Mt Sterlrng We were very proud of the senlor boys thrs year for helprng make the football and basket ball seasons a success The Sunbury team was the Mrd Buckeye Champs rn foot ball and runner up team rn the County Basketball Tournament Thrs year seems to have flown faster than all the rest Wrth only a few weeks of school left we are lookrng forward to such events as the Senror Play Arsenrc and Old Lace the Iunlor Senror P r o rn Baccalaureate Semor Crutse then frnally our last 1m portant step ln Sunbury Hrgh School Commencement We have worked hard to make thrs annual one of the best and N9 hope tt rs also a success And now we are ready to close the doors of Sun bury Hrgh School we wrsh to thank the faculty Mr Skomp Mr Hunes and the school board for makrng our hrgh school days ones we wrll never forget now the graduatrng class of 1411 llurlft n O tl ' ' ' ' I , V L, A ' I , 1 - -- l ' .
