CI sometimes doubt if people fdly realize HOW wonderfull. In out-ward appearance they clearly resembled any other first grade class. But, oh, the minds they possessed! Therefls no needto ask who they were--- The class of '48, ofcourse! Our fird: grade teacher was Miss Scott. Those :four class yyho have spent all twelve years here are! '.DprothYy Mitchell, Betty Jones, Jo Ann Lake,'Wanlta Gallogly, Trudy IE1nghg.5 Mary Jane Fairchldfj Jean Barcus, Dons Downing, Ted Gray, Jams Flshezg and Evelyn Shoaf. - ' Time passed swlfdy, filled with joys and sorrows, but on the whole, the next few years were very profitable. Our second grade teacher, was Miss Bond, whom we all idollzed. Miss Bishop, Miss Phillips, and Miss Beattle taught us in the three fdhving years. During these years we picked up some new students: Robert Metzger, Margzerite Mallernee, Homer Baughman, Kath:-yn,Whisman Gallogly, Mary Compton, Hazel Doane, Ray Wirick, and Curtis Chandlery. In the fifth we had a Valentine Romance. Doris Downing re- ceived a box of candy from Bill Patton. We all envied Doris, but were quite proud of her also. ' ' A In the sixth grade we enjoyed our teacher, Mrs. Horlodcer, who told us all the troubles of her Bulldog. ' Also we all likedtnhear her Squeaky organ and to sing SSM-I-L-E. Daring the year we had a Midget Basketball team. Our first man teacher was Mr. Crawford in the seventh grade. This was his ilrst year at Sunbury. His son, Lee, and Herbert Ward and Harold Chandler were added to our class enrollment. Wanita Gal- logly became one of our high school majorettes. ' Then we finally made it to Mr. Ne1lson's eighth grade. This year we learned quickly and learned the essentials we would need to meet our high school requirements. We received two additional men- bers, Tom Kllbury and Bob Cheadle. Our Eighth Grade Class 'Play was Wildcat vnllie in the Doghouse. We were now ready to become green Freshmen.. In the year ofKl944the doors of Sunbury High School 'opened wide to admit a long line of intelligent folks. CBetter known as Freshl menl. This year was one grand nightmare of athletics and social events During our Sophomore year we had many boys and girls from our room participating in the various sports andorganlzations. Two other new members: Hdly Moore andCaro1Nincehd1ser joined our class. The Junior-Senior Banquet will bee cherished in our memories forever, as the most succe,ssf'ul-,social event which we have had ln- high school. This year Jo Ann Lake was chosen as the football homecoming queen. Bob Metzger, Herb Ward, Ted Gray, and Homer Baughman were on the Delaware County Championship BaBketball'Team. They also helped win the Draudt troph from Galena. 'New members were: Donna Clevenger andFC1yde Gosnell. Our Junior Play was Daffy Di1ls. It was suc- cessful to say the least. We have but another milestone to go be- fore we reach our goal. ' Officers for our Senior year are: Bob Metzger, Herb Ward, Davis Downing, and Betty Jones. y This year we have a new member, Jo Ann Evans. We sponsored a dance after the Homecoming Game, and havelbd other social events during the year. The Prom, at which we were en- tertained this year, was another social event which we all enjoyed immensely. We shall never forget the good time the class of '49 gave us. ' Sunday, May 16, came, bringng Baccalaureate Services andflnally on May 20 we reached our goal -------- COMMENCEMENT. We, the Senior Class, wish to thank all our teachers for the lessons they have taught us, and for all the many' things they have done for us during our High School days. There is one lesson that I have learned that stands in my mind, 'You can't get a blessed thing out of life if you don't put a blessed thing in. With diplomas in hand, We now say goodbye, To the school we love and cherish, Sunbury High. Trudy Finch
