Down Manco way This year for the first time a junior band was organized which is composed of students from the grades. Here's to them - the future band of Big W Stone High! i The Band added a touch of color and erfter- tainment at half-time at all of our football games except the Norton and St. Paul ones. lt was a feature of the B.S.G. Merchant's Christmas Parade. Several members of the Band entered the Bluefield Regional Contest and went from there to the All State Band in Roanoke. The Band Concert given in the spring gave a performance worthy of praise. BUCCUWSCV The bull fight Mrs, Mc and her band deserve much credit for the excellent work which they have done this year. On October the thirteenth Bristol was host to its First Annual Band Festival in which twenty-three high school bands participated, lt was a great day for those who love a parade W To the blare of trumpets and the crash of cymbals they filed by the reviewing stand on State Street to win the ploudits of the iudges and the heart of everyone. The final events of the day took place at Municipal Stadium prior to the Emory and Henry- Guilford football game. At this time the bands Drum Malor Patty Lynn Weatherly with her maiorettes. proved in masse three numbers Under me dlredlon ol the iudges. Then the three top bands of the Mzmbc-rs of the All Stato Band and Workshop. Wilson, Witt, Johnson day were awarded trophies. When Mrs, Mc , the Scale, Grubb, Mayhew. only lady band director participating, went out on the held to receive the trophy for second place, it was the home folk's time to stand up and cheer. We did. At the concert in Roanoke Mrs, Mc had seven representatives. The group was divided into two sections. In the All State Band were Betty Sue Grubb, Betsy Witt, l-lershal Johnson, and Patricia Wilson. In the Workshop were Ray Seale, David Barker, and Jerry Ann Mayhew. Alter three days ot hard practice the two sections gave a ioint concert, Mrs, Mc said, The All State Band was comparable to the best of college bands and the Worshop one, to a very good high school band.
