C ARL AKENS Sponsor ,,,,,,, ,,,,, S ARAH BROADWATER Weatherly, Witt, Alcens, Rutherford , Junior Class When we first entered High School in 1948 we gazed upon the upperclassmen with envy. Much time of the first year for us Green Freshmen was spent in getting ac- quainted with the student body and faculty. But, oh, when we became Sophomores! We were gradually solving our problems and our minds turned to the various activities of the school. Then the glorious day arrived when we claimed the proud title of Juniors. With Miss Broadwater as our sponsor, we completed a very successful year. In October we chose a class ring which was an oval ring with the familiar school crest. The Junior Class boasts of its representation in the field of sports, especially football. Players from our class were James Ashe, Jennings Scroggs, Bobby True, Bob Messer, Jimmy Whisman, Eugene Rutherford, and Philip Kinder. Basketball claimed five of our boys and five girls with Gay Perdue as girls manager. In the Key Club were Carl Akens, Jim l-lamblen, James Ashe, Eugene Rutherford, Dane Kite, Jimmy Whisman and Jimmy Mclzalls. Our interests were also in music as evidenced by eleven from our number in the band and twenty-two in the Glee Club. Those who served on the Safety Patrol were Barbara Jo Fletcher, James Ashe, and Phyllis Witt. . Many took active parts as leaders and members of other clubs and organizations, such as the Los Conquistadores, Camera Club, Roman Club, Varsity Club, and the F.H,A. Club, In April we entertained the Seniors with the annual Junior-Senior Prom which was an outstanding event of the year and one which we should cherish as one of our fondest memories.
