L O RA DINGUS Mgidfles, Orr, Cooper Senior Class The thirty-three of us did not all begin our education the same year. Of our group only Callie Anne Coughlin, Betty Anne Yonce, Anna Sue Williams, Dorothy Burke, Tommie Vaughn, Faye McQuery, and Louise Duncan have that distinction. Those years in the grammar school seemed short and we were ready for high school before we realized it. .As we Seniors near the end of our high school days anxiously we await that all important day-that day on which we shall receive our diplomas. The thought of leaving our school friends to face a new life with its responsibilities has with it a note of sadness and we stop to recall some of the incidents ofthe happy years spent in school. In our Freshmen year we were so excited over being in high school that it took us some time to realize that we were one among many. Even then we felt quite grown up. As Sophomores we began to enter into the many activities of the school which increased that feeling of importance that we already had acquired. The Junior year arrived and with it much excitement. The day we chose our class rings will be long remembered. The selling of magazines to help defray the expenses of our School Bell when we were to be Seniors was quite a profitable experience for us. Probably the most important event of the year was the Junior-Senior Prom. lr was really a gala affair with all the trimmings. The final act of the year was our par- ticipation in Commencement exercises-marching with the Seniors, carrying the daisy chain and singing with the Seniors. At last, a Senior! This year will always hold first place in our memory. In Sep- tember the rings arrived that we selected when we were Juniors, Soon we were looking at and choosing invitations. Then Easter vacation came and with it that important trip of the year to Washington. lt was really a week filled with excitement and fun, Time was running short-the Senior play, directed by Mrs. Winston Giles and our Sponsor, Miss Lora Dingus, was presented and well received. Shortly after our appearance as would be actors and actresses we were entertained by the Juniors at the Prom. Our class president Bob Buckles was chosen King for the occasion-and he really looked the part. As Commencement week approached we realized that we were about to say Good- bye to those happy school days, and we had hope that the future held open the door of success for us. C ARL AKENS Sponsor ,,,,,,, ,,,,, S ARAH BROADWATER Weatherly, Witt, Alcens, Rutherford , Junior Class When we first entered High School in 1948 we gazed upon the upperclassmen with envy. Much time of the first year for us Green Freshmen was spent in getting ac- quainted with the student body and faculty. But, oh, when we became Sophomores! We were gradually solving our problems and our minds turned to the various activities of the school. Then the glorious day arrived when we claimed the proud title of Juniors. With Miss Broadwater as our sponsor, we completed a very successful year. In October we chose a class ring which was an oval ring with the familiar school crest. The Junior Class boasts of its representation in the field of sports, especially football. Players from our class were James Ashe, Jennings Scroggs, Bobby True, Bob Messer, Jimmy Whisman, Eugene Rutherford, and Philip Kinder. Basketball claimed five of our boys and five girls with Gay Perdue as girls manager. In the Key Club were Carl Akens, Jim l-lamblen, James Ashe, Eugene Rutherford, Dane Kite, Jimmy Whisman and Jimmy Mclzalls. Our interests were also in music as evidenced by eleven from our number in the band and twenty-two in the Glee Club. Those who served on the Safety Patrol were Barbara Jo Fletcher, James Ashe, and Phyllis Witt. . Many took active parts as leaders and members of other clubs and organizations, such as the Los Conquistadores, Camera Club, Roman Club, Varsity Club, and the F.H,A. Club, In April we entertained the Seniors with the annual Junior-Senior Prom which was an outstanding event of the year and one which we should cherish as one of our fondest memories.
