JUNIORS Miss Broadwater again assumed the responsibility of being our home room teacher and counselor. After starting on another school term, we finally got accustomed to our schedule and began to work on a few of the many tasks that lay before us. F When football practice was resumed last fall, Roy McCrary, Joe Blanton, Bill Messer, George Beard, Alan Cummings, Joe Martin, Ralph Graham, and Robert Cochran worked hard for a position on the first team. Mary Anderson was elected one of the cheerleaders. Next came the long awaited event, the time for us to select our class rings. After looking at many samples from two companies, we chose a beautiful square ring. After our mid-term examinations, there was an aroused interest in basketball. June Beverly, Sue Reasor, Freda Buckles, Joan Dickenson, Anne Barker, and Elliouise Ray represented us on the girls team, and on the boys' squad were Joe Williams, Alan Cummings, and Ralph Graham. Joe Martin served very efficiently as manager of the boys' team. During the year wellost three of our members, Juanita Phillips, Claude Gilly, and Albert Hobbs, but their loss was compensated by the enrollment of Luther Updike and Robert Cochran from West Virginia and Norma Light from Appalachia. Vfhen the staff of our school paper, the JOLLY ROGER , was elected, those from our class who held positions were, Joan Dickenson, editor, Joe Martin, business manager, Gary Collier, circulation manager, and John Holmes, reporter. Juniors who held positions on the'SCHOOL BELL STAFF were Alan Cummings, assistant editor, George Beard, assistant business manager, Joe Martin, assistant art editor, and Normand Graber, Junior representative. Many of us participated in the school clubs. ln the LATIN CLUB were Louise Underwood, Gary Collier, and Alan Cummings. Rubye Dulaney, Ann Barker, Marion DuPre, Elliouise Ray, June Beverly, Sue Reasor, Mary Carr, Freda Buckles, Margaret Hill, Normand Graber, and Joe Martin were members of the SPANISH CLUB. Alan Cummings, Normand Graber, Joe Martin, George Whisman, George Beard, and Ralph Graham took active part in the KEY CLUB. ln the CAMERA CLUB were Roy McCrary, Ann Barker, Wilma Trent, Normand Graber, and John Holmes. Roy McCrary, George Beard, Joe Blanton, Bill Messer, Joe Williams, Wilma Trent, and Mary Anderson again were members of the VARSITY CLUB. Helen Myers, Elliouise Ray, Marion DuPre, Roy McCrary, Alan Cummings, Normand Graber, Joe Martin, John Holmes, Mary Carr, .loan Dickenson, Ann Barker, Margaret Hill, Dorothy Fields, Sue Reasor, and Freda Buckles were in the GLEE CLUB. We tried our abilities as salesmen when we sold magazine subscriptions in February. Realizing that the proceeds of the sales would help pay for our annual next year, we worked hard and secured a large number of subscriptions. interest was stimulated by a contest between two teams that we formed. lt was agreed that the group selling the smaller amount of subscriptions would give the winning team a party. Everyone was crying, Which team is ahead? How many have you sold? or My feet are tired! The Junior-Senior reception was our outstanding social event of the year. This festive occasion was held in the gymnasium, which was beautifully decorated with evergreens and flowers. The climax of our Junior year was our participation in the Commencement Exercises. As we walked down the aisle carrying the daisy chain with the graduating class, we realized that when the next session of school opens we will be SENIORS.
