Superintendent Dear Class of 1969, In October of 1957, when you were in first grade, the Russians astounded the world by putting Sputnik I in orbit. ln December 1968, midterm in your senior year, your country orbited three astronauts in Apollo 8 around the moon, then brought them safely home. These incredible scientific advancements were accomplished during the short span of your basic education. During the same twelve years other history-making events took place. Unfortunately, many of those other recent events illustrate manis lack of respect for his fellowmanis inherent right to democracy's ideal of life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. As the moral growth of man should equal his scientific advancement, 1 would, therefore, charge you to use your education to uphold the responsibilities of your heritageg to preserve the privileges of this democratic societyg and to continue the technological successes of this age for the benefit of your fellowman. SCHOOL BUARD Seated: Kenneth Wagner, Marlin T. Keller, secretaryg Leroy Pomraning, presidentg Donald T. McCullough, treasurerg William McCrea. Standing: R. David Hunsecker, Melvin Hench, Fredrick Bistline, Wayne Wood. This year has been a period of change and unrest in educational institutions all over the world. Much of this activity has taken the form of rebellion against society. How can this type of behavior contribute to the betterment of society? Here at Big Spring, however, we as a School District have effected many changes that we hope will contribute to the betterment of society. We are planning more changes for the next year, particularly in relation to the opening of the new Junior High School. We feel these changes are most necessary in a constantly changing world. The orderliness and cooperation in these changes are a tribute to the staff and pupils of our District. We of the Board of Education look to the Big Spring graduates to be the responsible citizens and future leaders of our area. We have, through the tax money paid by our citizens, provided the resources to help you develop into this type of citizen. ln the final analysis, it is up to you to accept this responsibility. Good luck! The future belongs to you. Sincerely. K 7 T LeRoy M. mraning President

Director of Secondary Education As a class progresses through the high school grades, it establishes a unique identity regarding personality, charac- ter, and reputation. The class of 1969 will be remembered for providing the type of leadership which produced an atmosphere of har- mony and friendliness with the staff and student body of the Big Spring High School. A cooperative attitude and positive outlook permitted this class to transact .business in an efficient manner and to enjoy the extracurricular activ- ities planned by the class leaders. As you leave the security of your class and school environment, l encourage each of you to be a worthy and productive citizen in our extremely complex and technologi- cally oriented society. l hope that each graduate will enjoy peace, prosperity, and happiness as he pursues his future plans and objectives.
