When you think of a high school, what do you see? This is the picture that comes to me: A high school is people-teenagers and all. Itis assemblies and classes and a rush in the hall. lt's panic at report cardsg it's maroon and goldg lt's thrills and excitement that never grow old. Suspense fills the hallways, and rivalry,s keen. All yearn for a scholarshipg who will be Queen? A high school means projects and clubs with their fun, And everyone working till all tasks are doneg Tense moments at ball games-Will we win or not? That uFightin' Bulldogn spirit means more than we thought! What is a high school? What is its story? We've told it here in all of its glory! We hope that you will always remember Big Spring as such a high school. With this thought in mind, we proudly present to you the 1964 BIG SPRING. In . Memorzam Delores Jean Camp November 11, 1946-September 14, 1963 Those of us who were fortunate enough to have known and worked with Delores will always hold a treasured memory of her happy face and per- sonality. K Dr. Pool L. Stone Supervising Princooal and at his home. Dr. Stone in his office . . . To the Class of 1964, Heartiest congratulations on reaching a milestone in your preparation for life. For some, attaining this goal is just one phase of formal education, while, for others, it is the end of such training. In either case your school has attempted to give you the basic facts necessary in making intelligent decisions, and it is hoped that each of you will use this basic foundation on which to build good and fruitful lives which will make you outstanding and contributing members of our society. It has been a pleasure having you as students in this school, and it is my sincere hope that you will receive the best life has to offer. Supervising Principal Mr. Ray C. Fry High School Principal Mr. Fry checking his records . . . The l963-64 school year has been very fruitful for the students of Big Spring High Schoolgthe annual achievement tests indicated progress in subject masteryg the athletic program was quite successfulg the music programs were well receivedg and approximately thirty per cent of our senior students were accepted at institutions for advanced study. The rate of growth at Big Spring High School has been tremendous. Graduation class size has increased from 37 students in 19541 to 171- students in 196511. This increase in enrollment brings with it a challenge for greater success in the future. Certainly more minds should produce a greater product. Therefore, we must look to the future with the confidence gained through past experience, and a desire to constantly reach for a greater de- gree of success in the solution to manis continuing problems. dd , C, - ff High School Principal . ...D i W VI Q . . . and at our forbidden Coke machine. flee Personnel Secondary Supervisor, C. Larsen 1963-64 Exchange Student Dear Fellow Students, On behalf of my family and myself l want to thank all of you students of Big Spring High School for this wonderful year we have had together. Even though 1 had a lot of the education before, l learned a lot. lt has never hurt anybody to hear a lesson twice. Through- out the year 1 attended most of the activities and 1 always enjoyed the good sportsmanship shown by Big Spring's athletes. 1 have many times heard that the students of Big Spring High School are not thought much of in this area. These voices couldn't be more wrong. The students of this school are just as intelligent and have an academical standard that is just as high as any other school in the area. lfll always he proud of saying that 1 attended Big Spring High School from 1963 to 1961 and that 1 graduated and wear the class ring of 1964. Rwveixiug nur iliplmmxs Class Rem-ssiu11 59 1964 Senior Clos The class of 1964's version of HThe Raveni' by Poe is recorded by our historian, Teresa Finkenbinder. It gives us a review of the experiences that we enjoyed during our years at Big Spring High School. H0nce upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lorew- Ah, distinctly I remember it was in that bleak September When we entered B.S.H.S. for six years or more. Three years followed fast and followed faster ,Til their song one message bore- There is more. Then as sophomores, never flitting, never sitting, Shoff Hetrick, Giordano, and Rebuck led us through a successful year. Tho' there was much work involved, all we sophomores were resolved. To thoroughly enjoy ourselves in high gear. Going gayly, gloriously, glamorously through uSome Enchanted Eveningl' And then there was more. Then with summerls beckoning lure, we undertook our Hershey tour. Although the day was dark, the joys of Hershey Park Thrilled us, filled us with fantastic terrors never felt before. Ah, I must laugh, I cannot dismay at this bleak day in May. When the sky suddenly threatened our escapades. For, to our fun, these burdens were joyful aids, But next year More fun than e'er beforef' For we cannot help agreeing that no living human being Even dreamed what next year held. In 763 our dribblers grew stronger, hesitating then no loinger. Sir, said Mr. Houck, or Madame truly, your support I implore. So when Hershey stadium beckoned, our teachers and faculty reckoned That Homework could be withheld But, there was more. Also during sixty three, new officers Drawbaugh and Weary along with Giordano and Hetrick did, Jointly with many more, a better job than eier before To give uStairway to the Stars top bid. Q Miss Rebuck, our queen, was such a fair teen. As she and her court reigned supreme. But still, There is more. K of ,kj ff S o f X f 117235. ,I ' , 3 'xx Bittersweet Memories S As the year proceeded, it must be heeded That the musical was quite a success 'Qlff -.,,f' 12:71 ,, , I 6'Broadway in Review by Lerner and Loewe was a delightful entertaining show. With May, our studious interests grew less, We looked wistfully toward our Gettysburg tour When we cyclists made traffic a mess For next year, 'There is moref' Back into the school house turning-all our souls within us burning. Seniors now-the buildingis ours! But wait, the year was crowded, and the teachers doubted if as we pouted, we'd ever see the end. To help enlighten senior hours, Denmark sent us Jorgen, who helped us all to learn that human happiness over all towers. In ulfiamshackle Inna' with its cellar of gin, The silence was unbroken, and the stillness gave no token, And the only words there spoken were the whispered words. '4Who's that dead behind that door?,' Our star Bonnie Day, made this year's class play A huge success despite the tragedy that prevailed. The newspaper was kept, in full swing by Margaret except When the number of pages was curtailed This year only one class officer went, and now, Bob Baker was vice president. Miss Finkenbinder, our queen, and her court were seen As they reigned over Autumn Leavesf' The following evening, with the teams good reasoning, Our homecoming game was won. Finally lVlr. Robinson and Mr. Houck united talents, in Finian's Rainbow a balance. 'Twixt drama and song which all believes will surely belong To the successes of Big Spring High. May-that month that came so quickly-brought with it a thought so sickly To some, and yet to others alleviation Our trip to the fair capital of our states was followed shortly by a milestone in the fates of us seniors, for our education On the high school level had come to a close. But as each of us knows It was the beginning of a lifelong cultivation. As to our high school days, it may be said many ways But There were no more.
