“Because we were again dlvlded we had for our advlsors Mrs Rearick and Mr Woods With their help and guidance we sponsored the Sophomore Hop or as we called it the April Showers Dance The gym was cleverly decorated with umbrellas, spr1ng flowers and a cute white plcket fence whlch kept the orchestra from leaving their posts Our theme song 'Too Tired' was plq ed Under our advisors' guidance we chose our class colors and our motto, 'Out of school life, into l1fe's school' Our school life also included the Latin Clubs' 'Mardi Gras' the first event of its kind to be held in Newv1lle Next we had a class skating party at Roxbury and one of the big events of the year rolled around, it was the play 'Our Hearts Were Young And Gay with these class members taking part Robert Over, Helmut Blume Barbara Lehman, Dolores Heberllg Then came the year 1949 50 and the song 'Don't Cry Joe' The year was a difficult one for d1p1omats and citizens alike The Glbbs murder case, rising prices, and other national affairs seemed far away as we began our junior year For the first tlme in our high school history we were ln one room under one advisor, Mr Spangler The junior year 1n hlgh school is one of the busiest for any class so we elected a grou of hard working class ofxicers to lead us Judy Martin Secretary, and Am Lqy Treasurer This year we had a very successful magazine sales 1D whlch the winner was Barbara Lehman with the highest junior sales of S96 OO The most important and elaborate event of our junior year was our own Junior Prom which was the first high school dance to be held 1n the newly erected Memorial Hall building Jake Ruths' orchestra supplied the music which included our theme song'Don't Cry Joe' Besides all this the first school skating party at Rainbow Roller Rink and a Junior class trip to Hershey was held The me bers of our class participating in vars1ty basaetball were Glen Mowery an Robert Mowery on the boys' team and Amy Loy, Barbara Lehman, and Jud Martin on the girls' team The school play this year was 'I Remember Mama' in which Judy Martin, Barbara Lehman, Dolores Heberliz, Helmut Blume and Robert Over took part Finally we have come to that memorial given by the Jun1ors for the Semors, the Junior-Senior Banquet This happy group met in the Zion Lutheran Church with the theme of the program as a Mexican Fiesta Our school life was over half completed now but the best was yet to come As we enter upon our final year in school important national afxalrs draw our attentlon for a while The song on the minds of everyone is of course 'Goodnight Irene' the talk is about hlgher taxes, Korea and the new COD8titut10D8l amendment This does not seem to bother the Seniors at all No, for there are more im,ortant afrairs in the little red school house on Big Spring Ave Talk of p1ctures, trips and graduatlon presents is heard throughout the halls ' n , 3 1 They were: Marian Miller - President, Wayne Hoover - Vice President, fi l '
