Just the sight of her brings to his mind the broken test tubes, spilled acids, upset oeakers, escaping tear gas, and the many explosions, so man that Mr. Woods was forced to hand in his resignation because of bad nerves. layne really doesn't think that Joanne is capable of teaching this class, but he changes his mind at the close of the period after hearing a lecture on the importance of sulfuric acld in American industry. vfo' After chemistry class he follows Marian who leads him to stud -hall. There he finds the school secretary, hirlqy Salisbury, who is taking the place of an absa t teacher. To his surprise, he discovers that the Newville High School has a T.V. set. He inquires and finds out that the p pils who have completed their homework may watch television He hurriedly finishes his homework and joins the group of pupils who are watching another of layne's classmates who is a guest on that program To his surprise he finds that it is no other than Jack Kail who has become a famous Broadway actor Z 4: Extremely exhausted after watching Jack give his version of Lady lacbeth's sleep w proud e garden another habits pretend there, alking scene, s he sneaks from the room Excited and a little bit of his well manipulated feat, he prepares to leave building, but is intercepted by the ever present principal who very curtly sends him to the kinder department He is embarrassed to flnd Carolyn Brandt, classmate as a teacher Uslng one of his school da he tries to find an excuse for his presence Carolyn that she doesn't know the real reason for his being but the children in her class know better because that where the principal sends everyone who doesn't act their Carolyn, who has always been very forgivlng, overlooks little incide t and tries to make the governor's stay pleasant as possible After a very enjqyable V1B1t he leaves the building, but stops to look back at Newvllle High School Instead of seeing the new builu1ng he sees the old one which he knew so well Glad to be away from the hustle and bustle of school life, he walks down the street of his old home town of Newville Attracted by a neon sign he crosses the street and discovers, much to his surprise, a small restaurant lhlch is owned and operated h Ruth lcGowan who is being assisted by Lee Snyder as chief chef Glancnng over the fine menu, he has almost decided to go in wha canoe comck, :mn Chestnut, ssc ,lf he sees and Mary Louise Louetta Stouffer Salisbury talking to the cashler, x2Lf Knowing that he could never without belng held up, he uses ,ll 5f judgment and decides that he I 1ce box when he reaches his ik pass those four his better wlll ra1d the estate Filled with a certaln amount of satlsfaction at seelng his classmates doing so well and pleased at how h1s home town of Newville has greeted and received hlm, he walks down the shady street wxshing that he was Once 48810 8 YOURS Student enjoying life at Newville High School th I 'A 3 rg R . .
