THE BIG SANDY HIGH SCHOOL ANNUAL STAFF PRESENTS THE 1988 PIONEER JUST OUR STYLE ADMINISTRATION PROMOTES STYLE The style at Big Sandy Schools has been one of winners - academic and extra curricular. The youth of the area have the opportunity to receive an excellent education and be able to participate in the many extras offered. Students have been able to learn valuable and life long experiences in and out of the classroom. Most coaches ask their athletes to realize their potential and play to this potential, classroom teachers ask stu- dents to challenge themselves and work to their highest ability and the world is asking our youth to be prepared to meet the challenges of life. Some students realize after graduation they did not put forth the effort in school they were capable of. Our hind sight is always better than our foresight, As the Class of 1988 leaves Big Sandy Public Schools, I sincerely hope they have worked to their potential and are prepared to meet the challenges of life. I would ask all graduates to keep their head up, and work to their potential and realize that you get out of life what you want to. Mr. Colter, Supt. Superintendent Bill Colter Congratulations to the annual staff for their efforts in producing this year's Pioneer, your long hours of work are certainly deserving of commendation. Just Our Style is a good theme for this year at Big Sandy High School, as the Pioneer students showed a lot of style and class in conducting themselves this year. We saw a lot of renewed and positive spirit this fall in many areas of the school. The rejuvenated Pep Club helped provide a lot of energetic and enthusiastic cheering at the games. The zeal shown by vo-ag students in working on the combined concessions and storage building was certainly impressive. The girls bas- ketball team just finished winning second place at the State Class C Tournament and did it in style, as they held together as a team for the season and showed some real class in doing so. Student Council has also been quite involved in pro- moting this positive style. The group committed itself to contribute $600 for the new concessions and stor- age shed and on the program. Student Council will sponsor a coed volleyball tournament in January and is planning to hold other events that would boost school spirit. I am proud of the efforts that everyone is making to add style to our school this year. May this attitude continue to grow this year and last forever, Principal Jim Barsotti Mr. Barsotti TEACHERS Bob Nelson- Vo-Ag Judy Stevenson- English Robert Melhoff- Math Cathy Barbie- English Orville Grasdock- Science Michelle Harmon- Music 3 TEACHERS 4 Ruda Marshall- Secretary Sherri Heppner- Secretary Ruth Kulbeck- Clerk Cindy Merkel- Clerk Bernard Witschen- Custodian Jim Stave- Custodian Tim Faber- Custodian 5 BOARD OF EDUCATION Ron Pearson Jon Tester, Chairman Stan Weaver Roy Runion 6 SENIORS CAREY CROY Song: So hey girls! by Shelly Carey Food: Gummy Worms Movie: PeeWee's Big Adventure Person: Jerry Jappe, Chuck, Shelley Saying: Get out of my face. We had just arrived in Big Sandy anxious to begin celebrating the five year reunion. As we dug main, we gazed at the pedestrians looking for a glimpse of some of our old classmates. There was Sean Beers in front of the drug store with a Penny in one hand and a basketball in the other. We had heard that he was coaching the Globetrotters. Close by was another coach, Carey Croy, a volleyball specialist who also ran a tuna factory during the off season. A couple of members of the social set were lounging in front of the Mint. It was Clay Dixion of Dixo Club fame, and Jim Dumas, a well known San Francisco earring polisher. A cloud of dust and scattering people announced the arrival of Bruce Gasvoda, well known race car driver and line painter. Behind him Eric Gasvoda with his van and a double trailer hook up. Eric had brought the whole family, both wives and all 15 kids. They were all buckled in with seatbelts tested by Theresa Genereux. As we drove up the street, we saw Margie Gibbons standing in front of MG's Food Farm. Across the street was strung a banner announcing the evenings entertainment, The Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star Band with its leader Janae Graff and her collections of BlueJays. Ron Pribyl, looking fit after his recent trip to Chinook, was standing in front of the Mountaineer chatting with publisher Shawn Rettig. Shawn had earned recognition as the face most seen in print. Just before making a U turn, we encountered a school bus driven by Allan LaBuda, accompanied by his wife. Allan drives bus as a professional but also finds the bus reasonable transportation for his sizeable family. Allan's wife, the late Cincy Gasvoda, had taken time off from raising a family to star as Dopey in the newly released Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. As we drove back down the street, we saw Adjutant General of the National Guard Don Pegar directing traffic with his aid. Brad Short. The army was never sure if Brad had joined because his seldom showed up. Just arriving from Havre was Trina Turner of the In a Flash taxi service. Trina had just completed another quick trip to Havre to pick up a load of celebreties. Aboard were Michelle Peterson of Munchkin Opera fame, Beatric Shulter, prime minister of Switzerland, and Carl Nicolson, the Skipper's restaurant skipper and occasional bass player. Standing in front of Peps was the American Bowling Congress's Man of the Year, Paul Lund. He hadn't put the ball down for 13 yrs. (they didn't know it was stuck on his finger.) In front of the bank, Shari Robinson was peddling Websters Dictionary of Wild Life. Shelley Martin was there trying to convince Shari that Shelley belonged in the book, but Shawn told her that it wasn't that kind of wild life. Hearing Hello baby, you know what I like, we turned to see Janca Hodann still looking for someone who knew what she liked. Well that about completed our tour of main. All the old classmates were there. Oh, who are we?
