You are about to enter the world as an adult. Education, like life, must be taken in daily doses. Each dose takes from yesterday, ad- ministers today, and prepares for tomor- row. With the philosophy, live it up now ' bombarding us from all directions it is all too easy to forget the lesson taught to the grasshopper. Taking life one step at a time can be an effective answer to life's continual problems if it is realized that each step must come from sure footing. Each step must then better its footing in prepara- tion for the steps to follow, for if we stop taking steps, we soon become moss cov- ered. With this in mind I wish you the best of luck. QKADUAZJOJQ On May 22, 1985 Big Sandy High School said good bye to it's twenty-four graduating seniors. The commencement exercises be- gan at 7:30 p.m. in the high school gymna- sium. Parents, grand-parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends of the graduates came, most of them arriving at about 6:30 or 6:45 p.m. For some this was a joyous even- ing, but for others it was a time of sorrow. Many tears were shed, but everybody seemed to pull through. Mr. Bud Weiser was the guest speaker and, as always, he gave a very inspirational speech. When all congratulations were said, the grads left to change their clothes and head to the cele- bration. The class of 1985 is now just a memory of Big Sandy High School. 985 Roger Barsotti Rick Denning Susan Holmes Reece Ophus Dan Wall iJUfflOKS Lynn Bartkoske Renate Finke Chris Hughes Lauretta Pelley Lana Welty Earl Boettcher Brian Gasvoda Jerry LaBuda Mark Reichelt Ronnie Williams Lani Bryant John Halter Rodney Marten Penny Robertson Jim Winters Top Left: Susan Holmes and Lani Bryant practice their latest handshake. PKWCJPAC’S MSSSAQS This year's Pioneer will serve as a record of a unique year in the lives of our students. Yes, 1985 marks the centennial of the town of Big Sandy. Since 1985 is also the year of Homecoming in Big Sandy, the Pioneer staff has most appropriately selected Homecoming as the theme of this year's annual. This Pioneer will serve as a record of memories for those who return in 1990 for another Homecoming. Perhaps if man is still in existance in 2085, those who are around for Big Sandy's Bicentennial cele- bration will be able to review the 1985 Pio- neer to compare their era with ours. Having recorded the memories of our ex- periences this year, whether they be in areas of extracurricular activities or the day- to-day happenings in the classrooms, the 1985 Pioneer will always be a place for us to come home to. Thanks to this year's edition of the Pioneer, we will always be able to relive many of those treasured moments. ssenszAKV SMKKJ MSPMK ZSACMSKS Helen Maxwell-Home Economics, FHA Adviser, and Guidance Counselor Bob Nelson- FFA Adviser, Vocational Agriculture, and Ag-Drawing Roy Lackner- Typing 1, Bookkeeping, Personal Business, and Girls' Basketball Coach Christine Brumwell-7th and 8th grade math. Alumni and their fam- ilies and friends will gather for the three day event to renew old acquaint- ances and to reminisce about their days in Big Sandy High School. This has been a very positive event in the past and with the planning that has been done by the present committee, I'm sure that the '85 Homecoming will be the same. It is my intent here to give praise to past and future alumnus for the hard work put forth to foster the continuation of the event. It has been my privilege and pleasure to have been involved in a small way with the planning of four homecom- ings so I know the amount of work involved. Congratulations and thanks.
