Remember. . . Remember when we put on our shy little smiles as our first day of school began? Well, we have a somewhat different feeling on our final day of graduation. Our shyness gives way to happy confidence and pride in ourselves at the achievements of twelve years. We started at the bottom of our life's mountain and began to climb, taking with us joys, disappointments, laughter, and tears. At last, during diploma time, we realize how much we have changed over the past years and how our school and community have shaped us into the persons we have become. We find ourselves remembering our first encounter with school - a curious, excited approach. Then we see how our attitude changed to one of boredom, and at last to the con- viction that most of us now hold: that school is a vital and rewarding area of our lives. It has helped us to form our moral standards, grow internally, live our lives to their ful- lest, and be aware of the people around us. We look back over the years and see ourselves gradually change in appearance and personality. Remember our long skirts, and how they kept getting shorter, until they became mini-skirts? Now we see them again begin to lengthen. Hair has been another changing fad over our years. Music, teaching, politics, and society in general has changed, often along with our ways of life, religion, and moral standards. Sometimes we wonder, are all these transitions for the best? We may never know; for the world, our coun- try, and our lives are all one constant cycle of life and death - bringing good and bad - always with the promise of better things to come. When will this period of change end? Most of us hope that it will never end, for if it does, all existence in this world as we know it will also end. - Pam Welty
