For Show For Real Remember. . . Remember when we put on our shy little smiles as our first day of school began? Well, we have a somewhat different feeling on our final day of graduation. Our shyness gives way to happy confidence and pride in ourselves at the achievements of twelve years. We started at the bottom of our life's mountain and began to climb, taking with us joys, disappointments, laughter, and tears. At last, during diploma time, we realize how much we have changed over the past years and how our school and community have shaped us into the persons we have become. We find ourselves remembering our first encounter with school - a curious, excited approach. Then we see how our attitude changed to one of boredom, and at last to the con- viction that most of us now hold: that school is a vital and rewarding area of our lives. It has helped us to form our moral standards, grow internally, live our lives to their ful- lest, and be aware of the people around us. We look back over the years and see ourselves gradually change in appearance and personality. Remember our long skirts, and how they kept getting shorter, until they became mini-skirts? Now we see them again begin to lengthen. Hair has been another changing fad over our years. Music, teaching, politics, and society in general has changed, often along with our ways of life, religion, and moral standards. Sometimes we wonder, are all these transitions for the best? We may never know; for the world, our coun- try, and our lives are all one constant cycle of life and death - bringing good and bad - always with the promise of better things to come. When will this period of change end? Most of us hope that it will never end, for if it does, all existence in this world as we know it will also end. - Pam Welty The Big Sandy High School Annual Staff Presents the 1975 Pioneer Big Sandy, Montana 4 Table of Contents For Show Faculty and Staff-----------------------------8-13 Seniors--------------------------------------14-20 Underclassmen--------------------------------21-25 Grade School---------------------------------26-29 Sports ------------------------ —------------30-35 Clubs, etc.----------------------------------36-44 Music........................................42-45 Miscellaneous--------------------------------46-49 For Real Faculty and Staff---------------------------52-55 Seniors-------------------------------------56-61 Underclassmen-------------------------------62-73 Grade School---------------------------- 74-75 Spons---------------------------------------76-87 Clubs, etc.---------------------------------88-99 Miscellaneous--------------------------- 100-107 Music-------------------------------------108-111 Annual Staff------------------------------112-113 School Life-------------------------------114-124 5 Advertisements 125-144 FOR SHOW Superintendent's Message As I began to write this message for the '75 Annual, I thought very hard as to what might be a good theme and kept recalling the Commencement Address delivered by a former graduate of Big Sandy High School. The speaker (Pete Madison) referred to all the help that this community had given to him and others to ensure their individual suc- cess. He talked of change over the past twenty years, and, after having served this community as Superintendent of Schools for a number of years, I believe that even though the comparisons he made relative to then and now were correct, this community is just as interested in young peo- ple today as it was in 1955. Certainly there have been many, many, changes which are much too numerous to mention; however, in considering our graduates I sincerely hope that our young people are still appreciative of the total education that this community has made available and that regardless of change they are will- ing to give a day’s work for a day’s pay. Congratulations to the Class of 1975. It is my sincere wish that each of you enjoy the success you so richly deserve. Boyd E. Romine School Board RON UPHAM (CHAIRMAN) ART WEAVER DON REICHELT RAY WILLIAMS FRED BITZ LOUIS BEIRWAGEN 8 Principal's Message In looking back over the 1974-75 school year, I try to measure the success of the school by the product of the school. Some of the indicators, I feel, should be the results of nation-wide testing programs, such as ACT and P.S.A.T. and state-wide testing such as those given during High School Week in Bozeman. Other indicators might be the success of the activities of the school, such as speech, drama, music, science fairs, athletic teams, Future Farmer, and Future Homemaker associations. In all of these we have performed very well. In the testing areas, the results are very favorable over-all, and, in the activities, we have been exceptional, winning state recognition in all of the main classifications of speech, drama, music, sci- ence, athletics, F.F.A., F.H.A. and Yearbook. For these aqccomplishments I am proud of you. I thank the teacher, coaches, and sponsors for their long hours and sin- cerity. I congratulate the students on their success. I wish to congratulate Mrs. Ray and her staff for the all- state yearbook of 1974. My thanks to Mr. Nicolson and this years staff for their diligence and efforts in the production of the 1975 yearbook. I am sure it will be recognized as an outstanding book on the state level this year also. H. W. Hammond Mr. O'Malley's Message 0 Dear Class of '75 On this, the eve of our Bicentennial we should reflect upon many aspects of our society - and none could be more important than our educational system. If the young people of this community are a good sampling then I believe that our system is indeed working. You the Class of '75 must carry on this fine standard. I wish you the best of luck in any endeavor that you might choose. You are charged with a responsibility to make the most of yourself from the fine foundation that these years of high school have built for you. 9 Gladys Aman 10 Orville Grasdock Lawrence Green Dewey Hannum 1 James Harper Helen Hashley 11 FACULTY AND STAFF John Hashley Robert Lanning Mary Lotion I ! 1 V Helen Maxwell Ron Mangold Mary Humes Ladene Mangold Robert Mehlhoff 12 CRAHAME NICHOLSON FRANCES MILLER BEVERLY PHALEN BILL SNOW LORN A SPRINGER JIM STAVE RICHARD THORNTON JAN TURNER 13 CLASS OF 75 TAMI CHRISTOFFERSON DALE CLINE RODNEY COOKE CRAIG EDWARDS 15 TIM FABER CINDY HENDERSON JON FISHER JOHN GREEN 16 DAVE L ABU DA CURT LARSON FRANK MAXWELL 17 KATI MATT!LA RICKMEDHUS DENNIS MERTZ 18 MARK OSTROM DEDE OPHUS JOHN REICHELT GAYLEN RICE BRUCE SCHWARTZ RANDY ROBERTSON IUL IE SILVAN GUY SHERVOLD 20 MIKE WITSCHEN KENNETH YIRSA JUNIORS Nola Bitz Shiela Cline Colleen Cook Sharon Cook Delores Cooke Debbie Counnage Keith Danreuther Joleen Darlington Kris Goll Harry Green Elizabeth Grosen Shari Jenkins Hank Knottnerus Diane Redd Mike O'Malley Karolee Ophus Jane Otto Verna Otto Ralph Pegar Calvin Pleningar Kathy Ramer Wayne Ray Demrece Ray Denora Reichelt Will Rice Wayne Silvan Vicki Sivemen Steve Skaalure Diane Tyler Marie Works Roger Works Jeannie Worsley Dan Beeler Mike Beeler Nancy Sorenson 21 SOPHOMORES Brent A man Bob Balazic Duane Beirwagen Jeanette Berlinger Lawrence Bold Scott Brady Doug Braun Bill Brown Richard Brown Eldon Burgess Vance Butiler Clayton Christoffersor Y vonne Cornett Rick Darlington Mari Genereux Doug Hashley Brenda Hoge Charlotte Jenkins Steve Kalgaard Carl Knottnerus Keith Lotion Shawn Matsko Scott Morley Tammy Nivens Louise Otto Debbie Palmer Clay Rice Joy Rice Bill Romine Marjory Sheehy Ralph Simpson Arleen Sorenson Sherry Sternberg Eizoo Terry Terry Tyler Pam Welty Rosella Witschen Roxie Works Alice Yirsa Debbie Yirsa FRESHMEN Cherie Beirwagen Linda Berllnger Wesley Berlinger Carol Danreuthei Marlys Darlington Amy Dixon Ann Drga Waller Eatinger Darla Eve Mary Faber Ron Fisher Gary Gullickson Jean Haaland Alvin Jenkins Wilfred Knottnerus Kelly Kulbeck Cheri Knudsvig Randy Pearson Clyde Pegar Mike Pursley Debbie Ramer Lisa Ray Andy Romine Steve Rose Lynn Silvan Kevin Skaalure Ron Sternberg Dan Tyler Delores Whetham Lynn Broere 23 8th GRADE, Robert Allderdice Allan Archibald Alan Bahnmiller Bryan Bahnmiller Amy Bitz La Vem Burgess Wendi Christofferson Ann Faber Cinda Genereux Kim Geyer Henry Go 11 Mark Grosen Kenny Hoge Don Jenkins Sheila Jenkins Lisa Knudsvig Chuck Labuda Barbie Lotion Tammy Sivertsen Terry McKeever Randy Nivens Beverly Otto Duane Otto David Palmer Robin Pearson Clay Ray Ben Rice Kay Rice Eileen Silvan Jeff Svennungsen Bobby Tyler Denise Ulmen Dan Underdal Leslie Welty Valerie Welty Cheryl Whetham Bernard Witschen Dan Works Cecil Worsley Tracy Wortman 24 7th GRADE Joe Allderdice Lori Archibald Kaihy Bahnmiller Maaike Batey Brian Berlinger Maureen Berlinger Don Bielen Bart Bitz Melinda Bold Kelly Braun Calvin Danreuther Lorrle Diacon Marlen Eve Mike Faber Shannon Green Thea Haaland Kirby Kulbeck Sandra Spears Reggie Springer Brenda Rice Mike Richter Annette Terry Michelle Vielleux Charles Witschen Robbie Whetham 25 SIXTH GRADE ROW 1, L. to R.: Mike Vielleux.
