Principal's Message During a time when so many are involved in protest and riot, especially on our uni versi tv and college campuses, it is wonderful to be able to announce that the 1968-69 Big Sandy school year has been a successful one. Our students for the most part have shown a desire to find the truth but have also recognized the need to consider the desires of others in their quest for personal liberty. This year the student council inaugurated a Student Government Day to give more meaning and importance to student body elections. I feel this day was a great success and much of this success was due to the leadership and planning by Don Stack, a member of student council who has worked on this project throughout this year. I congratulate the student council, the student body, and Don Stack for their efforts and success in student government. I am sure this annual will point out many other events from the 1968-69 school year that have marked it as a success in the lives of our students and community and will serve as a pleasant reminder in years to come. In retrospect I would like to add that the grades earned by our graduates attending universities and colleges have been very pleasing to us. We feel they compare very favorably with what they received while in attendance at Big Sandy High School. We accept this as a reflection of their home and school training in Big Sandy. I congratulate Mr. Graham and his editors Teresa Humphrey, Diane Edwards, and Carolyn Hansen on the excellent job which they have done on this annual. Your efforts in this publication will be appreciated more as each year passes. 6

Superintendent's Message Each year when asked to write up a Superintendent's Message, it is hard for me to comprehend that another school year has come to an end. I wonder sometimes if our schools are keeping up with the fast and changing pace of our present day society. I can only satisfy myself by circulating around and observing that education is what is foremost in the minds of our students, and that a real effort is being made to properly prepare our students for whatever they may choose as their life's work. I believe that the entire student body of the Big Sandy Public Schools is to be congratulated for making our educational process a positive one. I especially congratulate the class of 1969. Your enthusiasm and leadership will be missed. However, we must continue and so must you. May each of you have a successful and useful life. 5
