Superintendent s Message RAYL. PECK College of Great Falls, B. A. , University of Montana, M.A., Montana State University, Superintendent, German, History We tend to remember each school year by some important or impressive event that happened during that year. This year there will be a number of memorable events for you: (1) winning the State Wrestling Championship, (2) placing fourth in the State Basketball Tournament (much to the surprise of the so-called experts ), (3) com- pletion of the new addition to the high school building at midyear, (4) other events of a more personal nature that each of you will remember in a special way. The first three items contribute to the image of the Big Sandy School and community. They become a part of a tradition for those who will follow you in the years to come. The fourth item will contribute to your personal image as long as you may live. Congratulations to the members of the Class of 1967! Special congratulations to the hard working annual staff and their adviser, Mr. Salmonsen, for this fine yearbook. I am sure it will bring many happy memories to all of us. 4

Dedication The fiftieth graduating class of Big Sandy High School is honored to dedicate the 1967 PIONEER to the com- munity of Big Sandy. In doing so, we wish to express our gratitude to the people who have supported us in school and community life. Had it not been for the guidance given us by this community, many of our hopes and goals could not have been fulfilled. 3

Trustees At Work This year has been one of special challenge for local school trustees as the construc- tion of an addition to the high school building was undertaken without a bond issue. Af- ter a good deal of deliberation, these men determined that the savings to be realized by avoiding a bond issue were worth the additional responsibility and problems they would assume. By asking the people to approve special levies in excess of operational needs in the 1965-1966 and 1966-1967 budget years, the construction of the $80,000 addition was accomplished at a savings of at least $18,000. This building program is only one example of the willingness of these men to assume responsibility and leadership in providing quality education for local students. Al- though money and taxes are constant considerations in all their deliberations, there is consistent evidence that these men always place the educational welfare of local children above any other considerations. Although frequently criticized from numerous sources, the election and re-election of these men to the Board indicates the commu- nity dedication to this desire for quality education for the young people of this area. School Board Row 1, L. toR.: John Sheehy, Mack Quinn, Chairman; Fred Bitz, Donald Reichelt. Row 2: Edward Beaudette, Art Weaver, Chariey Danreuther, Frank Drga, Ronald Upham, Bill Snow, Clerk. 5
