Superintendent'a. YYleaaaqe Many people will remember this year as THE YEAR OF THE DOG ; to the Chinese people that will be an official designation for this year, but many will remember it in an unofficial way due to the Russian satellite con- taining a dog. Students of Big Sandy High School will re- member this school year for reasons that are more personal and less world shaking, I am sure. The value of this book will increase as the years slip past. You will never be able to sell it for a great deal of money, of course, but the personal value will increase as it helps you to recall some of the most care free days of your life. A time will arrive - in the not to distant future - when each of you will realize that those horrible school days were quite nice days. As you look back on THE YEAR OF THE DOG, (five, ten or twenty years from now,) you will realize that you were really living, as world events were creating even a more and challenging world for you to face upon graduation. Perhaps you will have solved some of the challenging problems that face us today in the years to come. If you solve the problem of mak- ing high school students realize that they face a much more difficult and challenging time after completing school, your accomplishments will be very great indeed. Hhtonif 1954- 1955 The class of 1958 entered Big Sandy High as Freshmen in 1954 with 26 in the class. They were Jack Allderdice, Bev Brewer, Ken Christofferson, Wanda Clixby, Leroy Diacon, Bob Dyer, David Ensley, Dorothy Farley, Francis Gasvoda, Gary Geyer, Gail Hagan, Gary Hagan, Marge HoVcicka, Len Jappe, Bonnie Lidstone, Wilma Krumsick, Judy Lohse, Sandra Marlow, Claude Miner, Janet McKeever, Lyle Ophus, Jean Pokorny, Roy Robertson, Bob Schwartz, Doris Stone, and Janyce Roudin. Deana Hurd and Doris Youso joined the class later in the year. Sandra Marlow left the class for Whitefish at the end of the first semester. The candidates for Carnival king and queen were Jancye Roudin and Ken Christofferson, and they reigned as the king and queen for the event. We were honored at the Activity Ticket Sales Dance as we had sold the most tickets. 1955- 1956 We started our Sophomore year with twenty-five in the class. We found we had lost Doris Youso, Jancye Roudin, Bob Dyer, Bonnie Lidstone, and Janet McKeever. We gained Marita Brooks, Bob Ragan, and Janice Conn during the year. Joanne Benson also joined the class. Class officers were elected as follows: President, Bob Schwartz; Vice President, Jean Pokorny; Secretary-Treasurer, Deana Hurd; Council Representatives, Gail Hagan and Daryl Tichenor. With the Carnival coming up, we elected Deana Hurd and Bob Schwartz as our candidates, but we weren't as lucky as in our Freshman year. We put on the Athletic Banquet towards the end of the year. It was very successful. We ended our Sophomore year by serving at the Prom Banquet. 14 1956- 1957 The year opened with the class having some new additions. John Denis transferred from Butte, Gwen Stave blew in from Great Falls, and Don Glascoe came from North Dakota. Class officers were Bob Schwartz, President; Claude Miner, Vice President; Jean Pokorny, Secretary-Treasurer; Daryl Tichenor, Council Representative. Carnival Candidates for king and queen were Len Jappe and Gwen Stave, but the class's choice was not elected. The class play Follow the Girls was a big success. We said good-bye to the seniors by honoring them at the Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom. The theme was Japanese Tea Gardens. Closing the year, the class decorated and ushered at the Baccalaureate and Commencement exercises. 1957- 1958 Roll call was taken on September 7. We found that we missed the face of Doris Stone. This year class officers were Daryl Tichenor, President; Len Jappe, Vice President; Wilma Krumsick, Secretary-Treasurer; Gail Hagan, Council Representative. Candidates for Carnival king and queen were Irene Bitz and Gary Geyer. Wanda Clixby and Marge Glasoe departed from our class at Christmas time. Cather- ine Contway, from Malta, was with us for a short time in the second semester. The Juniors honored us with the Prom banquet and dance this year. Gwen Stave and David Ensley were crowned king and queen at midnight. May 11, 12, and 13, found us on sneak trip. We all enjoyed ourselves. The year closed with the Baccalaureate and Commencement exercises on May 18 and May 24. 15 Clan Willa I, JACK ALLDERDICE, will my ability to argue with Mr. Hammond so he can win a few.
