PRINCIPAL S MESSAGE Seniors, we wish to congratulate you on this very worthwhile project brought to a successful conclusion. The production of a book of this caliber is a gigantic undertaking. It calls for the complete cooperation and teamwork of the annual staff, the school, your sponsors, our patrons, our merchants, and others, and represents hours and hours of hard work and planning on the part of many. Under the generalship of your good sponsors and your capable editor you have done a very commendable job of which we all are proud indeed. This book is the Rosetta Stone of the class of 1957 and will J remain so much longer than you remain. It is an indelible record of your class, your school, your community, and your Big Sandy as of 1957. True, now it is only a book, but thirty or so years hence it will be much more than that. I dare say it will, at that time, be one of your most treasured and cherished possessions. You will probably then lean back in your easy chair, retired or just tired, thumb through its several pages and recall many memories of the best four years of your lives. Wouldn't it be amusing if you should then call to mind the male members of the Faculty, scowl on face and paddle in hand, lined up like that many extinct volcanoes ready to come to life again, erupt, and probably blow your heads off? We sincerely hope you do not at that late date think too badly of us. Things we have done have been done not with the intention of being arbitrary or dictatorial but rather to make it easier for you soon to mesh into and match wits with adult society in an attempt to eke out an existence during your next many years in our highly competitive business world which you are about to enter. As you venture forth into life's school, we hope your four-year boot training course in B.S.H.S. serves of some avail in lightening your long journey down Life's rugged, unmarked highway. Happy landing to all of you at that distant destination. 4
