CLASS HISTORY In the fall of 1950, the doors of the school building were opened wide to 29 green freshmen. They were Charlotte Cole, Betty Ann Stevens, Lester Ophus, Doris Matthews, Patty Allderdice, David Archibald, Esther Bahnmiller, Anna Bahnmiller, Marlene Berg, Ronnie Christofferson, Mary Darlington, Nora Darlington, Jerry Eve, Robert Gasvoda, Laurence Hoge, Douglas Giebel, Charlene Lohse, Don Lidstone, Shirley Marty, Cathy Maxwell, Edna Miller, Aaron Pursley, Dennis Reichelt, Raymond Scott, David Tyler, Shirley Trunk, Ida Snow, Roger Williams and Roberta Swanson. This was the first freshmen class to be initiated in the new school building. The class officers for the freshmen were: Cathy Maxwell, president; Charlotte Cole, vice president; Edna Miller, secretary-treasurer; Douglas Giebel, student council representative; and Mrs. Price was our sponsor. We elected Nora Darlington as our cheerleader. We were initiated the second week of school, and our freshman return party was in November. It was held in the Old School assembly. In the fall Betty Stevens captured the crown for Princess at the first Home- coming to be held in Big Sandy. Since our Home Ec class proved to be very good cooks, the girls received the honor of cooking two FFA Banquets that year. For carnival candidates, we chose Mary Darlington and Raymond Scott. At the beginning of the second semester, Henrietta Jennings joined our class, making a total number of thirty students. Ending our freshman year we were sorry to lose Lester Ophus, Betty Stevens, and Charlotte Cole. As roll was called in the fall of '51, we found 30 lively sophomores answering. Carman Nystuen, Linda Hurd, and Alfred Nichols had joined our class. Class officers for that year were president, Don Lidstone; vice president, David Tyler; secretary-treasurer, Doris Matthews; student council representative, Raymond Scott; Mr. Rominger was chosen as our class sponsor. This year was in full swing when we won first prize on our Homecoming float, which was decorated beautifully with pine boughs and covered with roses to welcome the alumni home. During that term we gave square dances to raise money for our coming junior year. Our Carnival candidates for that year were Roger Williams and Shirley Trunk. CLASS HISTORY CON’T In the spring of '52, the Athletic Banquet was a huge success, with the help of the class and their mothers. In May of 52, the sophomore girls were called on to serve at the Junior and Senior Prom Banquet, thus ending our sophomore year. As we entered our junior year, stronger and much bolder, we found we had lost Alfred Nichols, but had a new face in our class. It was soon learned that Max Jolicoeur had joined us, making it thirty. Class officers for the coming year were president, Shirley Marty; vice president, Mary Darlington; secretary-treasurer, Roger Williams; student council representative, Doris Matthews; and again we chose Mr. Rominger as our sponsor. Mr. Miley was our co-sponsor. As we were juniors now we had much to accomplish. The play Drums of Death” was presented in the fall. It was this that started our junior year rolling. Nora Darlington and Dennis Reichely were our choice for carnival candidates. Again this year we gave square dances to help raise money for our Prom in May. To say our last farewell and good-by to the Senior class, we honored them at the annual Junior-Senior Prom and Banquet. The theme Deep Purple was carried out. Walter Gerson and Grace Diacon were crowned king and queen of the Prom. To bring our junior year to a close, we decorated and ushered at the Baccalaureate and Commencement services. We, thirty, bright-eyed juniors left school feeling that we had had a successful year. When the bells tolled in September '53 and called us in for the year we had long waited for, we readily went forth to make a success of our senior year. Everyone was back in class with the exception of Doris Matthews. Class officers for our senior year were Patty Allderdice, president; Ronnie Christofferson, vice president; Roger Williams, secretary-treasurer; Don Lidstone, student council representative. Mr. Burley was chosen as our sponsor with Mr. Rickerd as co-sponsor. As seniors, we welcomed 34 green freshmen into high school with initiation. Our choice for carnival king and queen, Linda Hurd and Ronnie Christofferson, received the honor of wearing the crowns at the 1953 carnival.
