CLASS POEM Our happiest days started In the year of 49, When our junior high pranks We kindly left behind. We moved a step closer To that golden gate. When we would be seniors, For that moment we did wait. Of course, we had to take a part And share the grief and fear That the high and mighty seniors Put into us that year. Yes! It was initiation For us freshmen, green and shy, But we really didn’t mind so much. For we entered Sandy High. Then we took another step Somewhat closer to that door, Although we didn’t accomplish much We were at least a sophomore. What did we look forward to? Certainly you can guess. It was the Athletic Banquet, Which was a great success. With three sophomores on the team We all worked and shared. Just to show these three boys How much we really cared. Now that year was over And we took step number three. Thinking of the junior play, We were busy as could be. ( 19)

SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY (Continued) “Now, Walt, I never did know what you had against women. You didn’t even look at a girl twice, did you?” “Well, I wouldn’t say that, Elmer; but let’s change the subject, shall we? And we’ll have to hurry.” “What are you in such a hurry about? You know Georgia Schlack did wonderful along with most of the rest. She was voted ‘Best Private Secretary in the City of Spokane. That must be the life; just sit in a chair all day and type.” “Yeah! Do you know what Richard Marten was trying? Betty was reading to me that he was the top bookkeeper in a big brokerage business. He added 4 and 8 and called it 10, and the whole buisness nearly went bankrupt. After he got that straightened out he quit. Said he blamed it on that blankety-blank bookkeeping he took while he was in high school.” “Here it says something about a cheer leader. Didn’t Burl Miner go with a cheer leader?” “Yes, and he finally married her. Betty read the other day that their twin granddaughters were cheer leaders now. Isn’t that something?” “You knew that Betty Fry was here. She’s the Betty I’ve been talking about; she helps around here a little, but you know how it is when you’re old. Not much good to anyone.” “Didn’t Fay Stevens go to Hollywood and become fashion artist for one of the top studios there?” “What’s this about Pat Welty and Bud Henderson? They are the top scientists of the world and Beverly Lloyd and Richard Tyler are helping. Beverly acts as secretary, you know; writes down all sorts of scientific formulas while Richard makes them up for the work Pat and Bud have been doing on a space ship bound for the moon. Bud is to take off in a few weeks. He should be able to keep awake for that short a trip.” “Well, Elmer, it’s been grand talking to you, reminiscing our good old school days, but I’ve got to be going—got a date!” ( 18 )

CLASS POEM (Continued) But we learned that wasn’t half bad That good old junior play. What bothered us most now Was the Prom scheduled for May. After hours of discussion. Some minor quarrels and fights, We finally decided on The theme of “Harbor Lights.” Since this was our last contribution To the class of '51, We worked especially hard So that everyone had fun. Now alas! We’ve taken our fourth step. As seniors we are here. To gain as much as we can In our last year. As we look back we’re sorry That we didn’t study more, But let that be a lesson to you Before you close that locker door. We know we’ll probably miss the kids, The teachers, books and all, And more than likely wish that we Were back again next fall. But just for now we’ll say so-long, For it may not be goodby. Though we may wander very far We’ll always remember Sandy High. —By BEVERLY LLOYD. ( 20 )
