SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY Two old gentlemen sitting on the porch of the “Old Folk’s Home” enjoying the warm sunlight—year 1993. Time of year—May—a beautiful May day. “Say, Elmer, you know it was just 41 years ago this month that we graduated from high school. Remember all the kids that were in our class and what time we had—why 1 haven’t heard from over a third of them in the past 30 years. Wonder what they’ve been doing all these years?” “Well, Walt, I had Betty reading me the paper last week, you know how bad my eyes are, and she said that Mr. and Mrs. Marlyn Cornett were the proud grandparents of their twenty-first grandchild. My, isn’t it amazing, Walt, how fast time flys?” “Huh, twenty-one grandchildren, just the number that were in our graduating class. Did Allan Pursley ever marry?. He was about the first I lost track of.” “I don’t believe so. He enlisted in the air force and during his air force career a rich uncle left him half a million and he bought one of the biggest ranches in Arizona. Yes sir, he really had the luck.” “Say, Walt, I bet our class was the only one that ever had six seniors engaged before they were out of high school. Bob Darlington, Marlene Dyer, Ernest Terry, Mardece Petersen, Mariana O’Neil, and Junior Tyler. Half of them were married before anyone knewr what was happening. Bob and Marlene are quite the wrheat farmers; he was the wheat king of 1957. Did pretty well that year, but then the next year Junior Tyler came along and had just a wrhopper of a crop and took the honor awTay. Yes sir, Bob didn’t do very well that year, nearly lost his whole farm and every- thing with it. Even Marlene got disgusted, but since then they have been fairing quite well.” “And Ernie did right well for himself too, got one of the best horse breeding ranches in the United States. While he was in the army, Mardece went to modeling school and made $5 an hour as a fashion model. Made money hand over fist.” “I read about 10 years ago that Dale Bramlette was retired. He had the title of ‘Little Demon,’ you know. Dale was a driver of one of those daredevil cars and it was said he made a fortune in no time. That was right up his alley.” “You remember Orval Christofferson. Used to call him Swede for short. Well, I guess he didn’t do so well. He fell head over heels for some dame and she left him flat for some millionaire. That was the end of poor Swede. See, that’s what dames do!” ( 17 )

CLASS HISTORY (Continued) pared to the long hours and the hard work that was spent in putting on the play “Here Come The Brides.” It was a great success in every respect. Our next attempt was the junior-senior banquet and prom. The hall was beautifully decorated with the theme of ‘‘Harbor Lights.” Clinton was with us again for awhile and then left for California to attend school. As seniors we greeted the freshmen much the same way as we were greeted. The class leaders for this year were Burl Miner, president; Allan Pursley, vice president; Mariana O’Neil, secretary; Ernest Terry, student council representative; and Mr. Burley, sponsor, with Mr. Hickerd as co-sponsor. Since a senior is always homecoming queen, we could be sure of one of the candidates to win. The winning girl was Marlene Dyer. It isn't always true that a senior class wins at the carnival but we are happy to report that Mardece Petersen and Ernie Terry, our king and queen candi- dates, were chosen to wear the crowns at the 1951 carnival. In preparation for graduation the seniors’ pictures were taken by Hester Studio of Billings. In November Ed Olson left our happy little group and went to Havre to finish high school. Clinton Lund was again with us during football season and then left for California to finish high school. In February, LeRoy Hurst was taken from us by a fatal automobile accident. In April, as we were finishing our senior year, we produced the comedy “Clementine.” In this play the following students participated: Beverly Lloyd, Rosanne Miller, Georgia Schlack, Fay Stevens, Mardece Petersen, Betty Fry, Mariana O’Neil, Allan Pursley, Ernest Terry, Elmer Lidstone, Richard Marten, and Dale Bramlette. A large crowd attended and it was very successful. At last that long-awaited day had arrived when all the seniors were absent from school at the same time—sneak day. Baccalaureate service was held before graduation on Sunday, May 19. Finally, after four years of looking forward to that big day, we reached our goal when we happly, yet solemnly and sadly, received our diplomas, the symbol of hard work and success. 16 )

SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY (Continued) “Now, Walt, I never did know what you had against women. You didn’t even look at a girl twice, did you?” “Well, I wouldn’t say that, Elmer; but let’s change the subject, shall we? And we’ll have to hurry.” “What are you in such a hurry about? You know Georgia Schlack did wonderful along with most of the rest. She was voted ‘Best Private Secretary in the City of Spokane. That must be the life; just sit in a chair all day and type.” “Yeah! Do you know what Richard Marten was trying? Betty was reading to me that he was the top bookkeeper in a big brokerage business. He added 4 and 8 and called it 10, and the whole buisness nearly went bankrupt. After he got that straightened out he quit. Said he blamed it on that blankety-blank bookkeeping he took while he was in high school.” “Here it says something about a cheer leader. Didn’t Burl Miner go with a cheer leader?” “Yes, and he finally married her. Betty read the other day that their twin granddaughters were cheer leaders now. Isn’t that something?” “You knew that Betty Fry was here. She’s the Betty I’ve been talking about; she helps around here a little, but you know how it is when you’re old. Not much good to anyone.” “Didn’t Fay Stevens go to Hollywood and become fashion artist for one of the top studios there?” “What’s this about Pat Welty and Bud Henderson? They are the top scientists of the world and Beverly Lloyd and Richard Tyler are helping. Beverly acts as secretary, you know; writes down all sorts of scientific formulas while Richard makes them up for the work Pat and Bud have been doing on a space ship bound for the moon. Bud is to take off in a few weeks. He should be able to keep awake for that short a trip.” “Well, Elmer, it’s been grand talking to you, reminiscing our good old school days, but I’ve got to be going—got a date!” ( 18 )
