F 6251 was the number of pennies col- lected by Big Sandy students in a drive to bring these coins back into circula- tion due to the shortage of copper. The jars shown are all full. Every noon from the Community Hall kitchen from 60-90 hungry children are served a com- plete meal at the School Lunch Project. This is a health project subsidized by the federal gov- ernment.

Last fall Big Sandy school sponsored one of the most suc- cessful scrap drives in Mon- tana. As a result of this cam- paign, over 100,000 pounds of scrap, rubber, iron, and other metals was collected. Nearly $500 in war stamps was dis- tributed to the students from the sale of this scrap. The high school band aided in the pub- licity preceding the opening of the campaign. In total amount collected, Big Sandy ranked third in the state among all schools, regardless of size.
