AMERICAN FIELD SER VICE AFS STUDENT FROM TURKE Y ONAT BAYRAK TAR During WWI the ambulance corps called American Field Service worked in Europe with French people. Also during WWII those people were volunteered to work as corps. After WWII those people wanted to continue and improve their relationships with these people they've worked with for years. And they decided to give scholarships to students from those countries. Since that time AFS programs progressed and became common all around the world. Today there are a whole bunch of different exchange programs for American stu- dents in different countries, and a year program for stu- dents in about 60 countries in the world to come to the U.S. Today AFS takes an important place in world peace and human relations with about 60 countries joined and more than 7,000 students sharing that experience every year.
