CLASS PROPHECY This is the year 1980. I was flying around one day in my 1980 Con- vair convertible over my hometown, Lost Angel, California. As I glided along I decided I would like to see my classmates again, whom I had not seen since I graduated from Big Island High School. I started looking around, hoping any minute to spot one of them. Soon I had to stop for gas, so I alighted in front of a gastorium and shopping center in Sedalia, Missouri. Who should I see but Franklin Reynolds, the owner of this magnificent business named ’’Mitchell’s Market No. 5”. Franklin tells me he is married to the famous movie actress, Elayna Elayne, who left the stage and TV to stay at home with their five sons. Franklin told me that Wray Tomlinson is teaching at Baylor University, Waco, Texas and that Wray married the French actress Christine Carere who visited at VMI during 1958. They have ten little Tomlinsons, all in a row. Frank¬ lin gave me a list of some of the classmates and their addresses, so I could very easily get in touch with them. Following directions, I finally came to a huge sign which read ’’Peaches for Sale”. I knew then I had the place for sure. I went up to this Man¬ sion and knocked on the door, a maid came and invited me in. She told me I could find Wray in the orchard, so I went out in hopes of finding him, but there were so many peach trees it was a very difficult job. After looking for a long time, I finally saw him ’’propped” up against a tree. He was very surprised to see me. He tells me he owns 100 acres of land on which his peaches are grown and are shipped to all parts of the world. After leaving Wray, I found that Opal Goff was next on my list, so I ventured on to see her. I found her in Illinois in the ’’night Club Smith”, which she and her husband, Keith Smith, are the proud owners. When she is not singing, she is busy giving lessons to her triplets. Opal told me that Edna was living in Tennessee, so I bade her a fond adieu and was off once more. As I approached the ’’Rocker and Roller” home of which Edna Coffey is the owner, she came running out to greet me. As we were sitting in her large home drinking tea, she tells me she is teaching ’’dancing” at ’’Coffey Island School”, which 2,000 students attend. Edna also tells me she has an eye cast on a navy man. I cannot look into her future, but whatever her plans are, I wish her much success. I bade Edna farewell and immediately drove on. As I was sitting in the ’’Grill” restaurant in Roanoke, in walked Mary Burks, now Mrs. James Mundy. She and her husband joined me and we talked for quite awhile. She has three girls and one boy, which keep her very busy at home sewing and cooking. She and James still like to go to dances, and when they do, they hire a baby sitter. 14
