From this interview it is easy to understand why Antarctica has pro- gresses so rapidly in such a short period of time. It well deserves its publicized anniversary and is cer - tain to progress as much in the next ten years as the past ten. Class Prophets: Joyce Camden Norma Burks Earl Hensley LAST WILL We, the Senior Class of 1954, upon leaving Big Island High School, Big Island, Virginia, being of sound mind and having natural intelligence do declare and make public, this, our last will and testament. To Mr. Bird, our beloved prin- cipal we wish to express our deepest appreciation for his untiring leader- ship and guidance throughout our schooldays, and the hope for many more happy days at B. I. H. S. To Mrs. Parks we leave mem- ories of days well spent and extend to her our deepest gratitude for mak- ing this, our last year, a most enjoy- able one. W e leave thanks to Mrs. Thacker, for the wonderful meals prepared in the lunch room and hope for a more courtious group in t h e lunchroom. To Mrs. Oliver we leave hope that this annual will be a financial success and thanks for the wonderful job she has done on this annual. To Miss Harris we leave all of our Latin and Chemistry books, and many thanks for all the wonderful things she ,c: done for us. To Mr. Oglesby we extend ou. thanks for his wonderful coaching and hope for more success in the future. To Mr. Callahan we wish to leave memories of our many political dis- cussions. To the Junior Class we leave the honor of being the next group of dig- nified Seniors, and all the privileges which accompany it. To the Sophomore Class we will our dignity, good manners and co- operativeness. To the Freshman Class we leave patience, willingness and ambition so that these last three years may well be enjoyed. To Billy Hudson, LeRoy Arthur leaves the inspiring phrase Come on Lee , and all his basketball am- bition. Joyce Camden wishes to leave her athletic ability to JoanMcNeely, and her bubble gum to Roas Ann Daw- son. Lloyd Phillips wills all he poss- esses to his sister in order to keep it in the family. Norma Burks wills her quiet like- able ways to Phyllis Wilson. Charles Casto leaves his shot- gun and rabbit dogs to Nancy Taylor. Rachel Farley Wills her good looks to Dorothy Reynolds and her beautiful smile to Frances Under- wood. James Turpin ' s Knack of being late for school goes to G. B. Dawson. Betty Goff wishes to leave her date list to Mary Willoughby and her happy-go-lucky ways to all the Jun- iors. Macon Putney wants to leave his interest in politics to Mr. Callahan and his leadership in the Glee Club to Jane Ogden. Peggy Bulis Wills her cheerful and willing ways to Shirley Taylor. Earl Dean Hensley leaves his good looks and way with the women to Carl Arrington. E. Pluribus Unum was adopted by our class members during our Junior year. It seemed no one wanted the poor kitty so from class to class E. Pluribus went until a holiday came and Norma took her home and she has been at her home since.
