Brooks, came to the Bidwell School in 1968, as a substitute teacher. He later became a teacher and registrar and held this position through 1970. In 1970 Mr. Brooks was promoted to Dean of Boys and was a great favorite with the students. The pupils were delighted in 1971 when Mr. Brooks became the Assistant Headmaster and then joyfully in 1972-1973 he became Headmaster of the Bidwell School. if :ii -- v' 21 H W.. -T' PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION The primary role of education is to foster an attitude of intellectual curiosity. Only when such an attitude is developed can real education take place. Education is not restricted to school or to the young years of a mau's life. On the contrary, education is a life-long pur- suit. Formal education, with its highly structured approach to a large variety of academic dis- ciplines, serves only to whet the appetite for further learning. Teachers, textbooks, and other appurtenances of institutionalized education function only as guide posts in the learning process. Throughout man's life, learning takes place. Only death itself seems to stop this process. Therefore, the goal of The Bidwell School is to encourage intellectual curiosity which is the basis of academic excellence. Intellectual curiosity and academic excellence are the marks of a truly educated person. This is the standard of the Bidwell School. Jack A. John Lennon Bowman, Sheila 8 years at Bidwell Snoz What's the purpose o -:::,5g..:lf am-.f me ' lags sw 1' I ,., , ' 4 4 .F W 'fi m Q W Pt - 'ff Lgl- l Lifts :rE.U Kemalyan, Martha 1 year at Bidwell Martha Mutt Oh for heavens sake When all things are hushed, suddenly a bird's song arouses a deep sense of stillness. When all the flowers are departed, suddenly a single flower is seen, and we feel the infinity of life. Try not to become a man of success, but try to become a man of value. Albert Einstein l Origone, Carlo 1 year at Bidwell Origone llgslm gli: KIQQH Des iderata Go plac idly amid the noise liz haste, 8: remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly, gl listen to others, even the dull and ignorantg they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggresive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself to others, you may become vain Sz bitter, for always there will be greater Kr lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble, it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there isg many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself, Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about loveg for in the face of all aridity gl disen- chantment it is perennial as the grass. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees Sz the stars, you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, 8: whatever your aspirations Sz labors, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy.
